New Desktop

Planning on building a new desktop before the end of this year. Not sure if missed anything/skimped on something here. As you can see I'm aiming for a $2k budget (more or less is ok).

Link shows a screen shot from newegg shopping cart:

For you people who are against clicking links:

Case: Cooler Master RC-932-KKN3-GP ($139.99 after rebate)

HDD: Western Digital WD Black WD2002FAEX 2TB 7200 RPM (179.99 each after rebate (storage)).

Monitor: Asus VE248H Full HD 2ms (2 of them $204.99 each after rebate )

GPU: EVGA GTX660 Ti FTW 2GB GDDR5 PCIe 3.0 ($279.99 after rebate)

PSU: Corsair HX750 EPS12V 80 Plus Gold Certified ($119.99 after rebate)

RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) ($89.99)

MOBO: Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UP4 TH LGA 1155 Full ATX ($184.99)

CPU: Intel Core i5 3570k LGA 1155 ($229.99)

CPU Cooler: COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 Plus RR-B10-212P-G1 "Heatpipe Direct Contact" Long Life Sleeve 120mm CPU Cooler

SSD: SAMSUNG 840 Pro Series MZ-7PD064BW 2.5" 64GB SATA III ($99.99 after rebate (boot)).

Not sure if there is anything I missed. I have Windows 7 x64 from work. Will need a keyboard and mouse (thought I had a keyboard already, guess not). I also have an external USB 2.0 CDRW/DVDRW drive that I can use (might want an internal one though). Also thinking about an aftermarket cooler to keep this cool, maybe some extra fans although I thiink the case has plenty. Cable Management supplies?? Trying not to skimp on this PC as I want to be able to run anything I want on Max with no lag. Will be using this for school, gaming, software development, VM, work related projects, etc.:p

On another note, my last system was a C2D e6750 , 8800gts (thanks bomberboysk), 2gb DDR2, EVGA 750li FTW (thanks bomberboysk) etc. so I'm REALLY looking forward to upgrading to something new (and I've been wanting to build another PC for a while as well haha).

Do you really need VelociRaptor for storage?

I believe samsung has realease 840 pro

Why do you need such an expensive case? Why not get a cheaper case and invest on watercooling system or aftermarket heatsink?

RAM: Go for 2 x 4GB or 2 x 8GB

Yah I was thinking about the RAM as I was posting it up. I may end up going for 2x8GB so I can upgrade to 32GB in the future. The 830 is on sale right now,i'll see if there are any differences. I want this to be fast, but if there isn't much difference on 7200rpm drives and 10000 rpm drives then I may look for some other ones (again speed is my main concern on this). As for the Case, I've honestly been wanting this case since I built my first machine in 06, I guess I could go for a cheaper case but that remains to be seen. Are you familiar with any watercooling/after market coolers that are good for the board I am going to get?

Is an Aftermarket GPU cooler something I should look into? Does anyone here have experience with the GTX660 being too hot? I'm looking at some on newegg but I'm not sure if it's worth it or not.

Alright so I've decided on this setup here, i'll go ahead and add pictures as the parts start to come in. I'm sure most here enjoy making/watching others make new PCs so this is all FYE.

Wow that's a bit much haha. But that case does look awesome and it it has enough space for anything i'd want to put into it.

Blue, all looks good. I'm not quite sure why you feel you need a 750W PSU though when you have a single 660 Ti on your list. I would personally spend less on the PSU and case and get maybe a Corsair TX 650 with an NZXT Phantom and then get a much better graphics card with the money you save. Radeon HD 7950 or 7970 or GTX 670 or 680. I think that would be money better spent.

I was thinking getting a good PSU now incase I want to SLI in the future. I know the case is a bit much but this is something I'm going to be looking at everyday so I want it to look good as well. I've had cheaper cases (Coolermaster Elite 330) in the past and really felt like getting something nicer this time.

The Elite 330 is really a cheap case. I think an NZXT Phantom would be all you need, it's about a third of the cost too.

I would definitely save and get a lesser case and a better graphics card. It will benefit you more. The Phantom's an awesome looking case and if you don't like it there are plenty of other options within the same price range as the Phantom.

what GPU would you recommend? the 660 seems pretty good especially if I where to get 2 of them. Is there something better than 2 660s?
