Hi guys, i have a home server which all my data is on and it can be accessed by any computers on my network. I have been able to get remote desktop connection to work over the internet, but I was wondering how i can access files over the internet without having to use RDC?

Ok i don't understand. When i check my ports they are all closed, but 3389 RDC and no matter what i do i can't get port 21 to forward. To forward port 3389,which was blocked, all i did was add it to the router and i work first time. i have done the same with port 21 and this has not worked. Just to try to get to the root of the problem i have disabled the firewall in the router, disabled windows firewall, enabled DMZ to that computers ip and i checked that my isp was not blocking the port. What else could cause a Connection Refused error?

It costs a little, but for school work, I use livedrive.com. Its a good website, and it can back up files as you create them to access online. You could also try teamviewer or logmein.com as they have remote file access options. It also ordepends on the version of windows you are using sometimes. But you could look into setting a static ip address for your machine and setting DDNS up on it?

Your virus program may have its own firewall. try closing or pause protection. And you said you disabled the firewall in windows and router. Is this your own router? or a router with the cable company or both. something else to consider. Would say its one of the above.

been awhile for me using ftp. you do have to have two ports open for inbound and outbound.
And the ftp program has to be set to these ports.
