Last minute advice - PC Build

Hi,

I have just purchased all of the required components to build my first PC.
I am fairly confident I know what I am doing but I am asking if there are any hints, tips or advice you can offer me just to fool proof it all so I don't mess anything up.

For example: I am not sure whether its best to test the board outside the case. Also, stand offs are something I have learned about recently.

Just any advice in general. Yes I have the wrist bands before anyone says don't blow the components by touching them.

If you want to test the motherboard i'd just install it to the case.

Apart from that then really just take your time, dont rush and if it doesnt go in, then don't force it in (sex joke un-intentional ;D) and make sure you have a stable base to build on, dont do it on the floor.

Keep all the boxes for warranty's sake incase something goes wrong during the build.

First building it outside the case is a good idea.
Makes sure it will post, familiarizes you with how everything connects, is fast and easy to do, if you have an issue its easier to deal with, helps ensure smooth assembly inside the case. Its easier to mount the cpu and cooler before its in the case anyways. Use cardboard as your work surface.

Standoffs go between the mb and case. Only use a standoff where there's a mounting screw hole in the mb. No extras. Some cases have a raised spot(s) in the case's mb tray<don't put a standoff there.

Install the I/O shield first and guide the mb into it without scrathing the back of the mb on the standoffs or anything else. (aligning the mb I/O panel with the I/O shield will align the mb with the standoffs or at least pretty close). Could do a little mb install practice run before you install the standoffs, just to see how/what angle to get it into the shield. Just be carefull with the back of the mb because a scratch can short it.
