I've been into cooling the last few days after overlocking my i5 to 4.7 GHz. I just messed around with the fans and so on. Im not really into each part of the computer yet D: And i came across this. I've get a Coolermaster V8 which is something like so:

And just wanted to know, if this part is linked to it? If not, what is it for?

That's your fan controller.
You can set the fan of the cooler on low or high speed depending on the thing you're doing (internet:low, benchmark:high for example)

Fan controllers usually control the speed of case fans, not CPU coolers, so it probably won't change the speed of your CPU cooler, but you will be able to change the speed of your case fans if they're connected to the controller.

nope, some coolers just have a controller to set it either high speed or low speed.
My brother bought a zalman and he has something like that too.

On this particular model by CoolerMaster it controls the speed of the fan in the cpu cooler. its pretty rare to find cpu coolers like that but for this, it controls the fan speed inside the heatsink.
