Laptop New Screen - Now no sound?

Hi there posting on behalf of my Grandfather as recently the screen on his laptop broke and he paid a guy to change the screen. The new screen works fine but now for some reason no sound is present. The speaker icon has a red x on it now and no speakers / sound card is found in device manager. I have read many posts that is a bug in windows 7 and people have just reinstalled their sound drivers I have tried that but it hasn't worked. I have also tried going into the BIOS after seeing people say that there is an option but I do not see any options. Would changing a screen make the sound card / driver stop operating? Any help would be amazing, as I don't really want him to pay anymore.

What happens if you double click the Speaker with the X... should launch diagnostics, see what comes out of it.

A windows opens saying

"Problems found, Hardware changes might not have been detected."

Explore additional options offers no help. Like I say the sound was working fine before the new screen was fitted. Could changing a screen cause this problem?

I would say a cable was unplugged and not plugged back in when reassembling laptop.

Really? Would this cable be easily identified? Anyone know on here what I would be looking for? Trouble is if we take it back to the guy who fitted the screen he could say it was like that before he fitted new screen. We have no proof.

The laptop would have to be disassembled again. I'm sure there is either a cable unplugged or the person who did the work caused damage. Whoever replaced it should take it back apart to verify everything is connected. If something doesn't work after the repair then its his responsibility to figure out why and to repair it if he caused it.

Contact the person and make them look at it again. If you paid someone to repair it, they better warranty their work or at least refund for the faulty work.

Honestly, to me it sounds to me that something was either damaged. It could potentially be a software issue but typically replacing a screen shouldn't cause this sort of issue. Of course you can try plugging in external speakers and confirm nothing else is detected or outputted. But if a cable were simply disconnected, it should still "think" it's playing audio since most all laptops have a direct connection to the speakers (IE no switch to detect when something is plugged in)

If you want to test for software faults, download some copy of Linux (I like Kubuntu) and boot to a LiveCD. It will support most hardware and should give you audio if all hardware is good. I would NOT delve into attempting to repair it further without contacting the person first. If they offer any form of warranty service, they would probably claim you damaged it if you begin poking around.

So this problem never was fixed by the guy who broke it whilst carrying out a repair. I thought I'd post on this thread to save making a new one. I currently have the laptop in front of me without the case on. Could anyone give me any advice on what cables to check? Basically no sound device is found by the laptop, the headphone jack gives no sound and connecting external speakers etc gives no sound either.

Cheers everyone!

Is the driver installed in Windows? Even if the speakers weren't plugged in you should still have a sound device that works.

Yep the driver was installed etc. The sound icon in bottom right would just a have red x and then if clicked say problem found, hardware changed.

Just incase the driver wasn't installed correctly the laptop is an Advent Modena. Pretty sure when I went into device manager it was empty of any sound options.

Have downloaded things such as speccy, they all say no sound card detected.
