ADSL vs. Broadband

Hey, I'm new to this forum.

I have been on Bigpond Broadband for about two years now and recently found what looks like a better plan on Dodo ADSL. I am on the "unlimited" Bigpond Broadband plan for $59 a month and found the Dodo plan for the same price. I know that when I download things, I almost always pass the 10gb limit before the end of the month so it gets slowed to 64kbps. This dodo plan has three times the limit but what is the difference in speed? Dodo says 1.5mbps and Bigpond says "uncapped".

Bigpond Plans (cable)

Dodo Plans (ADSL)

What is the difference in speed between the two? Is there a significant difference in reliablility, speed or any other factors that I should consider?

Thanks in advance, Nathan.

Cable is faster than ADSL in Australia (for now), however if you're lucky enough to be on an exchange that iiNet, Internode, Adam, etc are rolling out their equipment to you can get up to 24mb/s download speeds.

For more info on Australian broadband check out Whirlpool.

Wow, thanks a lot. That link was very informative. I checked out the iiNet and Internode ISP's and they look pretty good. Adam was a bit too expensive for my tastes but the iiNet 10gb and 20gb plans look very promising. The Internode 15gb plan looks good too but it lacks the off-peak bonus that iiNet has and I leave my computer on overnight to download things a lot so the off peak bonus would be very handy.

Do you have any experience with these ISP's? Are the reliable?

And once again, thanks for that link, it's a great site.

I'm with iiNet... I'm happy with them.

Optus have just released new plans that you might want to take a look at too.
