hi, im wanting my pc to start up pretty quick and i think having an SSD will do the trick. But i was wondering will i need one with windows 8? as on my laptop it just has a standard 1TB hard drive and it loads up really fast on windows 8 in the space of a few seconds or so. i dont mind waiting like 15-20 seconds but i dont want to be waiting minutes for my pc to load up.

my pc itself is almost complete just a few things needed including a drive. Current specs, intel quad i7 3770k 4.2ghz, 16gb corsair vengeance Ram, corsair H100i, Corsair tx750w psu, asus p8z77-v pro mobo, havent got a graphics card yet due to cash but im going to get a msi gtx 760 4gb next month.

im really just trying to power my system to play a few games as i dont have a good graphics card yet and to start writing up work.

the SSD itself will only be used for the operating system and im torn between an SSD or 1-2TB 7200rpm hard drive.

what do you think i should go for?

regards, Tyler.b

Windows 8 boots up a lot faster than 7 on similar hardware, but a solid state will decrease that time even more, and general performance will be noticeably better.

If your budget has room for a solid state drive, definitely go for it. If not, sticking with a 7200rpm drive will work too. My suggestion would be to get a smaller SSD, such as a 120GB Samsung 840, for the OS and applications and another 7200rpm drive as well for storage.

Thanks :), i went for a kingston hyper-x 120gb due to the fact its £75 on amazon, cut down from £150. Thanks for the reply too.
