Mac OSX - unavailable screen resolutions

Hi all,

I have a 2008 mac pro which I have used for years with a VGA connected 20" LCD display @ 1680x1050. The video card failed a few years ago, so I bought a new NVIDIA Geforce GT 120, which has worked fine ever since.

I'm now trying to switch to a 24" LCD, also using VGA, which has a native resolution of 1920x1200. This resolution (and all other 16:10(?) resolutions) are missing from the list of available resolutions in "displays". The "detect display" function does nothing.

How do I fix this? I've read about issues like these since 10.6, and there are various "fixes" being batted about (buy a program called "switchres" - no thanks - spend money on a function which already exists?! Are they insane?), or start writing some lines of code somewhere in something (I really don't want to).

All I want is for OSX (10.8.5) to offer this resolution, but it doesn't. The card supports it, the screen supports it, OSX has no reason to not support it, what the hell is going on?

Any help please? I'm kinda stuck here...

Thanks

Well, I still think its a driver issue. I would unsintall all the drivers for the graphics card, including software and any OSX driver and reinstall it.
