16GB reading as 8GB

Hello all. I just got a set of g-skill 2x8GB to go along with the 2x8GB I already have (Both 2400MHz). The problem is, Windows (7 64bit Pro.)is reading it as 8GB, but cpu-id is telling me I got 16GB. Who's right, and how would I fix it?

Thanks!

Edit: 2x4, NOT 2x8GB

So you are saying you have 32 gb installed right now but windows and cpu id is telling you otherwise? Looks like your board only supports up to 16gb of memory 4 x 4gb sticks. Doesn't support 8gb sticks.

Sorry, I missed worded it. I have 16GB total, 4x4GB. Windows is only reading 8GB, not 16GB. However, CPUID reads it @ 16GB.

Can you try two of your sticks in another PC and see if they are correctly read as 8GB? Your RAM could be faulty or it could be the banks on the board which are playing up.

Have you tried resetting the BIOS back to defaults? How much RAM does your BIOS say you have?

Pull the two sticks out that you had previously and try them in the slots that the previous pair was in, if its like my board, if they are bad, the bad bank wont be turned on...but i dont know if mainstream boards will do this.

BIOS reads all 4 slots. I resetted the BIOS, to no avial.

Which motherboard do you have?

I don't have the EVGA Mobo no more(haven't up-dated sig yet), for this same exact reason, memory issues. I had a bad memory slot. I have the ASUS Maximus V Formula z77 now.

I took out all 4 sticks and put the 2 new sticks in the slots my original sticks was in, and now I get blue screens(But not with all 4, yet?). But if I put back the original sticks, it's ok. So I guess bad memory stick/s?

Oh, the sticks I have are in the sig.

Also, thanks for the help, much appreciated!

Id take a wild guess and say the sticks are bad. Memtest will verify. Oh Just read that capacity and speed. May be your board cannot support the ram at that speed, Back em down and see if you can post.
