Hello guys
Currently I have Windows XP on my PC. I have couple spare HDDs laying around and I would like to use one to install Ubuntu on it.
How I would like to do it... ? I will install the spare HDD in the computer. Install Ubuntu on it and then just switch the cables between HDDs whenever I need to use XP or Ubuntu.
Is it possible?

it's as safe as running a single OS. i believe if you're on windows you'll be able to access files on the Ubuntu partition as well.

No need to switch cables or anything

1. Install windows to one drive
2. Install Linux to other.
3. Select OS on startup.

That's all there is too it. GRUB (the bootloader) doesn't care how many drives you have.
