I was using my computer that i had built myself. It was just like all the other hundred days i had been using it, I had one the sides off my computer off when I to went to put it back on then, bam, the computer turned off and won't turn back on. I have tried several sockets around my house by it just won't turn back on. Please help! I have found that if I plug the power cable in then remove it after about 10 to 20 seconds the fan and lights flick on for less than a second! Please help me and thanks in advance any advice :)

Well, that should teach you not to fiddle around with it while its on. Anyways, try a different power supply, You most likely shorted something out.

Yeah you probably shorted something or knocked something loose. Unplug it from the wall, ground yourself by touching the case and go through and make sure all your power cables are completely seated, specifically the 24 pin ATX connector and the CPU connector.

Have you tried the paperclip test?

My guess is some static happen when you touched the side panel to the case. Try with it unplugged from the wall. Press the power button on the case a few times to discharge the PSU. Then plug it back up and see if its starts.

I had my computer on and opened the case and saw dust on the side of the PSU, I wiped it off and all of a sudden the whole computer shut off. I thought I fried something. So I took the PSU MOBO connector and shorted the green cable with a black cable using a paper clip and the PSU turned on. So this told me the PSU was fine. I plugged the MOBO connector back in and the computer started right back up.

So, try the paper clip trick and see if you can start the computer.

That sounds very similar to the problem I had with the build not turning on in the thread you answered. ^^

Once I did the paperclip test with the PSU and plugged it back in to the motherboard, it worked and everything was fine. Wonder if the paper clip test kind of "jump starts" the PSU in to working again.

Yeah, I thought about your thread when I answered this one. LOL! I don't know what it does. Maybe it's like a "jump start" since the MOBO isn't turning it on.

make sure you didn't hit the manual power button on the psu. (most new ones have them) ive done that while messing with my computer :D usually its something simple you really don't think of

The fact that he says stuff flicks on in the OP tells you it's not that. Somethings shorted out or something to that effect.
