Broken Onboard Audio?

Hey Guys,

When I built my PC a year ago I noticed that the sound on my onboard audio didnt really work that well. Basically every single one seems to work instead of the black slot. Is it broken? Did the drivers install incorrectly? I have a GA-Z77X-UD3H Motherboard. IS there somehow I can see if the slot is even recognized? Thanks :)

Black is normally for a subwoofer (if you have a 5.1 system). Check what the plugs are for and that your speaker settings are set up correctly.

If you're gonna use a headset, you normally want to use the green plug.

I still can't get it to work, or I am kind of confused when it comes to the colors of the headset? (5.1 Headset) Here is an image of the mother board and the headset plugs. I notice that the center control and the rear control dont work on the headset volume control.

I understand that you must be pretty stupid not to understand this but thanks for the help!

How do you know the black port doesn't work? Once you have them plugged in, go into the Sound properties in Windows. Right click Speakers and click Configure Speakers. then set it to 5.1. That's probably what your issue is.

Ok I have done this, and all of the 5.1 speakers work. But when controlling rear and center on the headset nothing happens?`Any clues?

Just make sure they're plugged in correctly. That's all I can tell you.

Should 5.1 work with most applications. Maybe it only has the controls available during certain apps. What do you think?

Make sure your in game settings are also set to 5.1. Though not all games have an option.
