Monitor goes black

My monitor will turn dark for a second or so then comes right back on. Power indicator light stays on while this happens.
Should I be looking for a new monitor?

1. How old is the monitor?

Perhaps the video ports on your motherboard or graphics card are broken? Also, the cord you're using from your monitor to your computer maybe defective or loose. Good luck on trying to fix it!

I had the exact same problem, then I switched to a different port on my video card and now the problem is gone.

The monitor is a Soyo 22'.
Its got to be at least 6 yrs old.
Yes I did have a plug loose going into the back of my GFX card, I tightened it up and still having the problem.
I'll switch ports and get back with you.

Alright. More than likely, you'll need a new monitor. If it does start to work then please get back with me. Also I see that you're in missouri too xD Anyway, just get back with me and tell me what's going on with it

Poor advice, albeit nice.

The last thing you do is replace the monitor.

Its most likely:

Not securely plugged in VGA/DVI cable
Degraded/Damaged VGA/DVI cable
Driver issues
Faulty GPU port / dust
Incorrect settings on monitor

before it is a new faulty monitor.

So if the problem continues..

Update driver
Replace VGA/DVI cable
test monitor on another computer if possible to verify its working

before you think about replacing it.

Yes, I'm still having the problem, as a matter of fact it just did it as I was typing this message.
By update driver, I assume you mean the video card?

I've replaced the monitor cable Friday and the screen went black on me again just a few minutes ago.
Since my last post a week ago, I've added a second monitor just to see what might happen. Now let me say that when it went black a minute ago, the second monitor kept running. Can i rule out that my video card is going bad be the cause?
