(Oof, been a loooong time since I've been on here.)

Hey all,

I'll have a little extra money in a few months, and my computer is 4+ years old (but the 5970 is still rockin'!), so I am planning a new build.

Here's what I've got:

CPU: Intel i-7 4770K

GPU: EVGA GTX780

Motherboard: Asus Maximus VI

RAM: G.Skill 2x4GB 2133 DDR3

CPU Heatsink: Noctua NH-U14S

SSD: Samsung 840 Pro 256GB

Case: Cooler Master HAF X

PSU: SeaSonic X-850 850W

And obviously some Arctic Silver for paste.

Any comments or changes? Please refrain from leaving comments like "You only need an i5 and a 680"... Just don't. But all other comments are welcome! :)

I'm hoping to stay under $1,800-$1,900.

I'm going to use the Samsung (under "SSD") as my main one and then use the two extra drives from my current rig as the data drives.

Oh okay then. It will only help by a few degrees, but I would get a NH-D14 for a few bucks more as long as it will fit in that case. Besides that great build :)

John - looks like a solid build. I have both an i5 3570K and just picked up a i7 4770K, can't tell the difference and if your not looking to save money than the i7 is the way to go and it's nice to have the tad extra performance. :D As far as a case it's always preference, but the X is a beast. I personally like small cases, but as of tonight I just purchased a Corsair 750D, I really liked the big side window. This will be my first full tower and got it for 139.00. Moving on to the GPU, I still have last years model 670 and picked up a used 680 both excellent cards. What can I say about the 780 ??? I'm jealous, with that said I like this card a bit more than the EVGA http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125488 ABSOLUTELY nothing wrong with EVGA this is just my preference. Next is your mobo and I guess it depends what your looking for. Your in the middle of the road, you can go high end and spend a few hundred more or spend a little less. My last two gigabyte boards have not been the friendliest too me, whereas the ASUS seems to be my sweet spot. I just purchased the ASROCK Z87-Extreme4 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157369 it's new and only cost me $100.00 so I'm going to give it a try. It's too new for me to recommend as I haven't installed it yet. As for Ram, 8GB is fine but I'd go for 16gb just my opinion. You can get twice as much ram for 50% more in cost http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231660 You chose a great air cooled heatsink, but for very similar performance I like the look of the corsair H110. Also the heatsink is huge and heavy I think the H110 looks cleaner, but again just my opinion. The SSD you chose, well I purchased 2 840 pro's and 3 840 EVO's so yeah big samsung ssd fan guy here :). Also purchase corsair and crucial no issues with any of them. As far as a PSU, Seasonic is a great choice. Is there a reason for the 850? All you need is a good 650 watt PSU and if you wanted to save some money you can get a Corsair for under the $100 range. I'm sure not the quality of the Seasonic, but it would have a 3year warranty and Corsair is a quality product. GL with your build and have fun with it.

That's a good build, can't really fault it though the case isn't my cup of tea (I prefer the NZXT Phantom or perhaps the Corsair 600T) and if this is for gaming you could save money by getting the i5 4670K instead of the 4770K.

Hmm, looks like it's marked down from $99 right now (at least on Newegg). I'll have to keep an eye on that one. If it's about the same price when I pull the trigger and buy everything, I might just go with that one. Thanks for the tip!

Ha ha, yep, I'm going with the HAF-X because it's a beast. :D I'll have to look at some reviews for the Gigabyte 780. If it's worth the switch up, I think I'll do that. I'll probably stick with the Asus board I've got right now, as I've seen some great overclocking done with it. The RAM I might switch to 16GB... I suppose even 8GB is getting to be a bit small these days. I found some really good reviews for the SeaSonic, and I'd like to be able to easily pop in another 780 in the future, so I went with 850W. Might as well. Ha ha, thanks! I certainly will have fun with it, especially considering what it's replacing. :D

I actually prefer the look of the HAF-X over those two (and most others I've looked at). This is certainly for gaming, as well as a slew of other things. I'm not specifically looking to save money and get a cheaper build, though, so I'll probably stick with the i7. Thanks for the suggestion though!

Just to clarify the Seasonic is very good quality, I was referring to the Corsair quality maybe not as good as the Seasonic. Corsair has different series made by different manufacturers. Funny thing is I have a few low cost OCZ PSU going strong with no issue for the past 5 years :D..... They were the mod extreme and Fatality series.... Double check that air cooler, great cooler, but again very big and heavy. Lots of stress on the board....

It's 80 on newegg and 78 on amazon, but I guess you meant without the deal then. The NH-U14 is 70 on amazon but it's probably easier to buy it all from one place.
