Intermittent loss of bass

Recently, my PC speakers started behaving very weirdly. Bass and drum sound would appear and disappear intermittently, leaving the music to sound very hollow. When there is bass, sometimes it would have static noise. I'm not sure what the cause of the problem is. Any idea how I can go about troubleshooting? My speakers is a generic Logitech set with sub woofer.

Probably a loose connection somewhere. Make sure all your cables are fully seated. I have a 5.1 Logitech system and it has a bunch of cable running in to a small black box separate from the speakers. Make sure everything is fully seated in there and connected to the sub. I assume you've got a similar speaker system to that of mine.

Sounds like the subwoofer connected to your speakers is going out....I would recommend replacing the speakers.

Oh really? Just like that hey? Just replace it with no investigation whatsoever?

To the OP,

  1. Download the latest Realtek drivers from here
  2. Download Driversweeper from here
  3. Uninstall Realtek software from the normal Uninstall Programs function
  4. Restart
  5. Run Driversweeper and select Realtek and select clean.
  6. Restart
  7. Install the latest driver for Realtek downloaded earlier
  8. Restart

Post results.

Sounds to me like one speaker is occasionally going out of phase to me... Things that are in mono/panned centrally (notably (usually) the kick, snare, and bass) would cancel out, and everything else would sound weird (hollow would be a decent description of the sound - does it feel like your ears are being "tugged" at?)

I'd suggest changing the connection between the computer and speakers. Easy to check.
