Helping my brother with his first build

Hi all, as the title suggests, I've been helping my brother build a computer, he was adamant he was going for AMD, and he was really trying to keep the price down, I sent him a link for an AM3+ motherboard, he bought what looks to be the same one from a different supplier, which is listed really confusingly MSI 760GM-P23 (FX), AMD 760G, S AM3+, DDR3, SATA II - 3Gb/s, SATA RAID, PCIe 2.0 4719072232252 | eBay after showing him a few FX cpu's, he's decided he wants this, which is more than the amount he wanted to spend http://www.amazon.co.uk/AMD-FX-4130-...+FX+Processors after much head scratching, I'm fairly sure it should work, even though the listing can't seem to make up it's mind, but I was wondering if anyone could comfirm whether this cpu will work, thanks in advance

The CPU isn't listed in the official CPU support list, but it's exactly the same as the FX-4300, which is listed. So it'll 99% surely work.
I would recommend the FX-6300 over the FX-4130 tho. A lot. Usually around same price if I'm not mistaken, but two more cores on the FX-6300.

I would not use it on that board. The reason its not supported is its a 125W processor. The board only supports up to 95W processors.

An FX 6300 is probably the best processor for that board. It's 95w so should be okay.

Thanks, I didn't even realise it supports up to 95w, I'm still having a little trouble finding detailed information on it now, just doing a little research, I think I seen the cpu you mentioned for about £77

Thanks, that's much better, annoyingly, I was on that page briefly and couldn't find the cpu support list, it's location seems so obvious now. To be honest, even if it could have supported the cpu I posted, the 6 core one suggested here seems like a much better deal for the sake of an extra £12ish, I shall have to persuade him, he originally said he didn't want to spend more than £30-£40 on the cpu, but I didn't like my chances of finding a decent one for that sort of price, if he's getting am3+ I thought he might as well get an FX of some sort

persuaded him to go for the FX-6300 as recommended above, he's ordered it for £77 on Amazon, he also had to get a sata dvd drive, as the motherboard didn't have an ide port, he's now on the hunt for a 1tb sata hard drive, the one's around his price range are currently a WD and a toshiba, I have it in my head Toshiba drives are unreliable, I can't remember where I read this now, is there any truth to this?

Go second hand if you don't have fund, keep an eye on avform classifed. There were ppl selling FX6100 for £50, 4GB RAM for £20

Go with a W/D or Seagate.
