Significant lower performance with windows 8.1

Hello everyone, i recently bought a samsung ativ book 6 and i must say the performance is fairly good. However, after updating to windows 8.1 my pc got way slower (lagging, high resources usage, etc). After doing some research i couldn't find any conclusive opinion, only some ppl with the same issue but no solutions or whatsoever. Now i factory reseted my pc and it's ok again, i already removed all the built-in crap (i have done this before too) and other stuff to get a better performance out of it, but i'm afraid of updating it and getting the slowdown again. Anyone had this problem too? Should i update it again, this time before installing more programs, games, etc? Besides, i disabled windows update and i'm not quite sure if they're really necessary, i mean really. If anyone faced this problem too i ask how you dealed with it.

thanks a lot.
and sorry for any misusage of language, english is not my native language :)

Immediately after the update happens, it is probably indexing which will use a lot of resources for while. Given it has a 5,400rpm HDD, this is expected. This should settle down. Other than ensuring all your drivers are updated, and WIndows Updated, I would update 8.1 and leave it on for a day or so to finish indexing. Then restart.

What Windows OS does your laptop have when you do a factory reset?
Is it Windows 7 or older?

Look...if your current Windows which works better to you does the job great then why updating it?
Unless IF you need some Windows 8.1 specific features. If not then no reason for updating.

It came with 8, so there is every reason to update it.

Hmmm...in that case I must agree with you then...Windows 8.1 MUST work either the same or better. No reason not to...

Lbfaco let me ask you...how EXACTLY did you perform the update to Windows 8.1?
The best way of doing it is to completely erase entire HDD using Kill disk and then install it.No need to create any partitions since the one which uses the entire HDD will be created automatically by installation setup.

Unless if you ONLY have the update disk...in that case you cannot do it on the way I wrote above. So yeah...the only way of doing it with an update disk is if you have a previous Windows version of Windows already installed.

So if you DO have the full disk then completely erase entire HDD using Kill disk and then install it.No need to create any partitions since the one which uses the entire HDD will be created automatically by installation setup.

If Windows 8.0 works fine then 8.1 MUST work fine also.
By the way did you perform ANY updates on 8.1?
If yes they could be the problem. How does it work WITHOUT updating it at all?

yeah it's only updated via store. I also read about the time necessary for reindexing all the files, but i was going for a second month with it and the problems persisted. thanks for the replies everyone. it looks like microsoft broke down compatibility with samsung pc's on windows 8.1, and samsung purposely didn't update it's drivers and firmware for a while. I was lucky since some ppl reported system crashes after updating. But now the relationship between the two companies is better and there are good updates available. The recomendation is to update all drivers before updating windows, which i'm doing right now. Wish me luck, later i'll come with the results.

thanks again for your replies :)
