Windows Installer Service Problems

I am trying to reinstall chipset drivers and am getting the following error message:
"The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed......."
I am running Win 7 and am unable to connect to the internet with that computer. If I need a file, then I will have to use this computer and copy to a thumb drive.

Any ideas?

I was also trying another fix unregistering and then re-registering the installer. However when I typed "msiexec/unreg" in the run box, a message appeared "Windows cannot find msiexec/unreg". Don't know if that helps.

For one, do yourself a favor and stop editing the registry for such a simple fix as far as mcafee security scan goes. You could have downloaded revo uninstaller to get rid of it for you. Or you could have downloaded either flash player or adobe reader and enabled the option for it to install that as an addon and uninstalled it after the installation.

I'm not sure how bad you have corrupted windows. Do you have system restore enabled? Go back to a prior day.

Long story short is that you can do tons of damage by editing the registry to the point a reinstall is necessary.

You should be editing the registry ONLY if you are 100% sure that you KNOW what you are doing.

The easiest way to solve this problem is to REPAIR windows using the REPAIR PROCEDURE from your Windows CD/DVD disk.
That will fix the registry for your Windows installer.

By the way some setups of some drivers/programs might require newer version of the Windows installer in order to work.In that case just download the newest version of the Windows installer and install it.

STARS - thanks for the advice. Will take it to heart. Is there a way that I can check to see if there still might be some problems with the registry? Where do I find the repair procedure on the Windows disk?
Thanks

Well look registry is HUGE!
And I mean HUGE like GIGANTIC and it would take me a LOOONG time to go thorugh all of it.
REPAIR will fix all problems in the registry so I would try that first.
Boot your Windows 7 disk and look for "Startup Repair":

You can also go to SERVICES section one more time and double check that Windows installer is not disabled:
