Crytek - Could this be the end?

A pair of reports published this week by Eurogamer and Kotaku suggest that CryEngine developer Crytek may be having trouble paying all of its employees, losing some of them in the process.

According to Eurogamer, anonymous sources within Crytek UK claim the company has failed to consistently meet payroll for all employees, leading to low morale and the departure of more than 30 staff members since 2011.

No. They are the best developer for PC, imo, and pretty much have one of the best engines if not the best. They wont allow themselves to lose that.

AMD had its financial difficulties as well, and they recovered. Although I think their financial problems were caused by them purchasing ATi.

Companies come and go, but Crytek is a major developer. They havent really been around that long, but I dont think they are going anywhere soon.

Although I am very surprised to hear they lost a deal to make a sequel to Ryse. That game was the Xbox Ones major seller upon release. Probably the main reason people bought the Xbox One. Its certainly an impressive game, its not really my type of game though but I would still like to see them make a sequel. Its certainly better than dragging Crysis on anymore.

Being a "major developer" doesn't mean anything in the video game industry. THQ was a huge name too, and look what happened to them.

As well, Ryse did not meet expectations as a launch title. No one bought an XBox One for Ryse. If anything the hype for Titanfall is what sold it. Ryse reviewed poorly and had a low attachment rate.

Best developer for PC, which is why they made on game for PC, then gimped the rest to work on consoles... Riiiiiight.

Their engine uptake has been low, they haven't made a truly great game in ever tbh, all they have is eye candy.

They need to go back to roots. I am not talking about the PC, but TimeSplitters of course!! They can easily create a huge storm in gaming by reinventing the old-school fps games. They have a big name in TimeSplitters to play with, a good engine, a big gap in the market, which atm is gaining hype because of new UT announcement.

If they released it on the major platforms with updated map creation tools from the first games, more advanced tools for PC versions and championed the competitive side of the genre like UT did and continued to do, they would be onto a huge winner.

But they won't, instead they are letting a community mod that they do not profit from take the credit for it

They made 2 games for PC. I dont know why, but after the first Far Cry, Crytek and Ubisoft parted ways which led to Crysis. Before they ever started producing crap for consoles, they already had an amazing engine to work with on PC.

They sure do sound like the greatest PC developer ever from their extensive catalogue of games made primarily for PC

They have only been around for 10 years. And they have released 4 titles that i know of in that time. Alot of the other bigger developera have been making games for PC way before that. Its not all about quantity its about quality. And while i thought Crysis 2 sucked, Far Cry, Crysis 1 and 3 i thought were great in terms of quality. And i thought Ryse was a good quality game as well, i dont recall it getting any bad reviews.

As far as im concerned they still have the best engine for PC. They just need to put it to good use again. I think them parting from Ubisoft with Far Cry was a big mistake on both ends. Far Cry fell off after that i think.

What Ubi did with Far Cry 3 was well received, and it's the hype from an enjoyed 3 that is going to propel 4 into decent sales numbers this November. Far Cry by far made up for the mess that Far Cry 2 was.

If anything, I'm extremely interested to see how this Snowdrop engine turns out with the upcoming Tom Clancy game will do. It by far looks better than even Frostbite.

As for Ryse? Not a whole lot of the people in my area particularly enjoyed it. I had a lot of feedback on iffy controls, odd rendering, as well as mediocre story and extremely repetitive gameplay.

To be honest, I didn't much like 3. The story was a bit meh, gameplay was repetitive, there didn't really seem like there was much to do. It was a very boring game imo and the characters were infuriating.

Crytek have shot themselves in the foot again with Warface. "We are on the verge of going into administration, what should we do? I know, let's release a free to play, pay to win game!!"

Free to play models work, as Riot proved with LoL, Valve proved with TF2 and DotA 2 and Gaijin proved with Warthunder, but as Gaijin found out, and now Crytek will to, pay to play models are hated because most people want a free to play game to be free, not something you have to pay for to fully enjoy.

I did not like 3 much either. I liked Far Cry 2 much better, but even that was indeed a mess....but I liked what they were going for. Far Cry 3, to me, was half assed in every category a game could be. The graphics were probably the worst part. I know it was intended for consoles, but even console games at the time didnt look that bad. I really dont know what they were going for with 3.

However, Far Cry 4 does look epic. We shall see. Far Cry has been hit and miss it seems. 50/50 chance of it being good or bad.
