Figuring out my DNS

I'm following a guide for port forwarding on the internet and it tells me I first need to set up a static IP and to do that I need to figure out my DNS IP, and it says I can do this by going into my router interface under status. The issue is I go there and there are 3 different headings, each listing 3 different DNS.

One of these headings is PPPoE, and under it it says internet, so I figure this is the one I need, however, as I say, it lists 3 different DNS.

On top of that, when I type ipconfing /all, the DNS it gives is different than any of these 3. When I type nslookup the DNS it gives agrees with the one ipconfig gives. So what hte heck do I use when setting up my static IP?

You can just use the two Google public DNS servers. They are 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

Are you talking about the DHCP IP of the device you want to port forward for? I don't see how your DNS settings would help with this.

EDIT: nvm i understand what you're saying i'd say use the ones that you got in IP config or as above posted just using the google DNS. I feel like i'm dyslexic sometimes ;(

As above, 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4

The DNS on your router is for the router itself. It may or may not inject those references into your DHCP leases. It really doesn't make a huge difference as long as they resolve DNS queries.

I wouldn't touch Google with a ten foot poll. Use Opendns.

208.67.222.222

208.67.220.220

But I fail to see how DNS has a bearing on port forwarding.

What OS are you using? Just go into the control panel/network and sharing center and look there. Actually you may get that DNS mask you got with IPconfig. Take a snap shot of your router settings and post here.

Well, I imputed the DNS listed under PPPoE in my router's settings and everything's working, so I guess that's that.

But I fail to see how DNS has a bearing on port forwarding.

The guide I'm following instructed me to set up a static IP (which I need for port forwarding) and I needed to input DNS IP when doing that.
