Do you want to setup a VPN at home that you can connect to when out, or use an already available VPN? Just be careful, with a VPN you are encrypting data between you and the VPN server, but you need to trust that the VPN server you are connecting to is legitimate.

Have a look here and pick one that suits your needs. https://torrentfreak.com/which-vpn-services-take-your-anonymity-seriously-2014-edition-140315/

I wouldn't use Private Internet Access. I have piss poor performance useing torrents and their client thrashes on the hard drive. I finally went with using OpenVPN with PIA so that I don't have to use their client. I have seen on their forums people mention VPN.AC. Check them out. I believe they take gift cards and bitcoin. If you have no clue about bitcoin Google "how to get a bitcoin wallet."

OH! PIA's OpenVPN cert doesn't even use AES encryption. It uses Blowfish128. Pretty lame.

VPN.AC has there own stand along VPN client so you won't have to use OpenVPN.

Because a proprietary client from a relatively small company is such a good idea... :)

One way is to have a software firewall at home with a full-tunnel VPN set-up with either IPSec or SSL if you can get it as a VPN terminator. All you need is a spare machine or VM and something like Sophos UTM home edition (free).

Alternatively, you could use a physical firewall like an ASA 5505 (although you need the Security Plus licence otherwise you don't get AES encryption!). This option is rather expensive though, and rather a faff to set-up.

If you wanna go the real technical route. https://www.untangle.com/store/openvpn.html

Most don't do this nerd crap. They buy a VPN from a service provider. Plus, you want a different IP address. I'm using one now.

Personally I can SSH into my router with a built in SSH server if I want, but it's slow and a VPN with a unique IP adress is better.
