DIY Computer Kit

My soon to be 13 year old son would like to build his own computer. I know enough about building a computer to know that I shouldn't even try, my son knows even less......which is why he is so confident that he can do it. I don't want to discourage him, so I was wondering if there are good DIY Starter Kits on the market for people like my son.

Does anyone know of any good kits that would be appropriate for a 13 year old boy who doesn't know what he doesn't know?

Thanks.

So, these kits come with everything that we would need to put together a working computer? What about an OS, software, wireless pci adapter...?

Each kit is different. The OS is usually not included with it. If we can get some sort of budget from you and what will he be doing with the system then we could recommend something.

And yes, its pretty simple to build a pc nowadays.

Have him read through this thread, then create a thread in desktop computers when you have a budget. Newegg is a good resource for components and we'll help you put it all together, within your budget.

Honestly, building a computer is pretty darn easy, I'm 13, I did my research, asked around on this forum, and I love my new PC.

Looks good. I would go with the free Windows 10 tech preview, and go with an FX 6300, a slightly nice mobo, and a nicer case or PSU as well

Multiple incompatibilities. Will come back with proper list. This is also the kid's first. It can always be upgraded when $ comes in :p

EDIT: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/D6nTqs

May need a BIOS update but they are quite easy to do.

I'm a little surprised to hear that. The warnings that popped up on pcpartpicker.com didn't really seem to warrant any majors incompatibilities. Thanks for the help.

I noticed that you took out the CPU Cooler? Why?

And, does the ASRock 970 Extreme3 R2.0 ATX AM3+ Motherboard allow me to take advantage of the USB 3.0 ports on the case? Is that the reason behind the switch?
