Is this an ok build?

I have been pricing stuff on various websites over the past few weeks. I've settled on a build from box.co.uk. I just want to make sure this is an ok build and I haven't gone wrong somewhere as I'm not an expert.

not bad.
Questions:

Do you have a real need for i7? You could possibly save money by going for i5

Do you really need liquid cool? Do you plan to heavily overclock?

PSU - Do you plan to SLi? 750W not enough if you plan to SLi.

Mobo - Do you need to spend that much on mobo? You can save a bit by going to mid-range motherboard.

Have you consider assamble your self?

Video editing is something that interests me and I think i'd like to get into it.

I've no experience of overclocking but that's what I'm hoping to do at some point.

I'm not sure about SLi. But it is something I have considered over the past week. I dunno if it too technical for me though. I'm pretty much a novice.

Well the reason why I'm getting this is because it has built in 802.11 AC and it saves me buying it separately and i get the bonus of a better motherboard.

Have you consider assamble your self?

I think that would be too technical for me and if something were to go wrong.....

It's a good build though I always include a DVD/CD drive for $10 bucks more. Many people say there is no need for i7 without knowing what the computer will be used for. I will only do a new build using i7. Of course it helps that I live near a Micro Center where the i7's are frequently on sale.

Optical drives are being phased out and aren't needed for installation of most softwares. Some cases don't come with external drive bays anymore.

and I have to question why you only build with an i7 if it's not practical.
It's like buying a super car to only get the kids from school.

Solid build! For video editing the i7 and the GeForce GPU will be great - you'll thank yourself for getting those. :good:

My only gripe would be that the case you've chosen is a little bit old and not so great on things like cable management. Do you have any other case options?

If you can afford it and want a powerful machine like that then it's difficult to fault really. £1300 is a lot and if you built yourself you could probably do it quite a bit cheaper I reckon (more around the £1000 mark) but that's what you pay when you go pre-built and pay somebody else to do it for you. ;)

The 750W PSU should be enough to SLI two 970s by the way if you ever did want to consider that, but one will be enough. Do you plan to game or is this for video editing only? If it's for editing only then a GTX 960 or even a more mid-range card like a GTX 750 Ti would be fine.

Oh I do understand, but there are those times when an optical drive makes things so much easier (Especially for burning an ISO). As for cases not coming with external drive bays, I say that many cases do come with them :)

When I can buy an i7 4790K for $279 and i7 4770K for $179, it is very practical.
I always build for the possibility that I just might need the ommp of the i7. Many people drive their kids to school in a super car (I doubt that is the only reason for buying it)...but later may take that same car to the race track. It's called being prepared. Notice I don't say anything bad about people who choose to use lesser CPUs because that is what they want BUT when people ask for an opinion when building a system, that is different.

Do you aware OP is from UK?
Never compare the deal you can get in your local shop to the rest of the world. It is not practical.

Where the OP is from, has nothing to do with the reply to where I was quoted.

Practical depends on what a person NEEDS/WANTS and HOW MUCH MONEY the person has. What is practical for one is not practical to all. Read the very first post and you can see that the OP is considering the i74790K. If it wasn't practical for him, he would not have been considering it. I lived in Europe for 20 years and still bought what I could afford, and was practical. My family there uses i7 in their computers......so your comment has to do with you and not the rest of the world.

I'm guessing you missed where the OP states he wants to get into video editing and may over-clock eventually.

It is fine that YOU might not find it practical but the recommendation wasn't for you. We can agree to disagree. :)

You questioned all the major parts that the OP was intending to buy....I'm guessing because they aren't practical to you. Some people DO NOT want mid range. That's just how it is !
