Best ssd for $100

Well the time has come that I am going to try out an ssd for the first time. But not in my desktop. Rather an older hp g62 laptop.

Not looking to spend more than $100. Don't need a ton of storage so if I can spend less for a smaller drive that's still good quality and fast that would be ideal.

I store barely any data on the laptop locally. It's all on the my cloud.

Note laptop only has Sata 3 so that will be a bottleneck but, I'm fine with that.

The Samsung 850 Evo blows the SanDisk Ultra II out of the water: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1462?vs=1460[/url]

That's true, but I built the PC on a limited budget and the specs were more than adequate.

SanDisk Ultra 2 240GB...550/500 read/write

I assume you mean SATA 3 Gbps? (also known as SATA II) :p SATA 3 without a unit usually implies the 6 Gbps variant.

The difference is still massive mainly due to both the drastically reduced 'seek' time and the complete elimination of latency via a mechanical moving r/w head.

There's a lot more to performance than the inflated R/W speeds

True again, but that isn't an issue for someone who has been using a SATA 1 drive for the last couple of years. For him the SanDisk is worlds apart from the previous drive.

As far as the OP is concerned, your suggestion is obviously the better choice.

You're right though, that any SSD is going to make a huge difference, even the one you posted. An SSD is the best way to make an old device feel quick again.

The Samsung 850 is what I was looking at. Just wanted to make sure that was a quality drive. I will prob just get the 120.

I regret getting a 120 slightly since I feel pretty tied down on space. The extra money for the 250GB is worth it in my opinion, but it depends on your usage as much as anything.

Like I said I barely keep anything on it. I mainly us it for web browsing. Right now I am only using 40gb

Well the 850 Evo 120gb is only $57 on Amazon. That's a steal so I just might buy 2 of them. One for my laptop and one for the GF's older dell laptop.

Both of our laptops have extended batteries and 4gb of ram. Both laptops and the ram upgrades I got for free.

As I said both or mainly just web browsing machines. The most intensive thing ever done on either is maybe a sims game.

Out gaming is done with the PS3. And video conversions/etc is done on my desktop.

Already purchased an 850 Evo 120gb last night. Might also purchase a 2nd hdd caddy and ditch my cd drive if needed.
