Beware the FREE Windows10 Upgrade!!

Just thought evryone should know these few things before they install the FREE Windows 10 upgrade. I'm not trying to discourage anyone only to inform:

1. The upgrade will kill your old Windows 7/8.1 license after 30 days. That means your license gets perm converted into a W10 after 30 days possibly with NO possibility to downgrade back to W7/8.1 after 30 days

2. All updates will be forced. W10 Pro users can postpone updates for 8 months, but not block them. Only W10 Enterprise users can choose which updates not to install. In the past, updates from MSFT have been known to break systems.

3. Forbes is speculating lifetime of a device to be 2-4 yrs for W10. That means the free upgrade could possibly be only supported freely for 2-4 yrs before you have to pay for updates.

OP has not been back since he posted. I only linked the windows 10 thread so that he knew that most of what he posted is in the thread and already discussed.

Even so we still can't verify that its actually free for lifetime of the device or only a couple years. There are so many different theories online about it and not one is 100 percent sure yet.

No the reason I posted in a separate thread is b/c I don't want this info to get lost in 30 pages of the Win10 thread.

Basically, I want everyone to know that they CAN'T get back their old Win7/8.1 after 30 days of upgrading to Win10. Basically your old license gets converted into a new one, and you can't revert after said period.

What if someone decided to try Win10 for 45 or 60 or 90 days and decided by then they didn't like it and wants to go back? Ooops, they can't. So ppl, plz bear this in mind.

PS: I confirmed this with another user and it is fact, Win10 upgrade WILL kill your old license after 30 days as per the EULA:

can't see the point of that, I guess it would be no different to keeping a copy of the Windows 7 or 8 installation CD on a disk or flash drive where you can reinstall the old operating system, if the licence is dead however your not going to get the updates and the be all and end all at the end of the day 99.9% of all users benefit from the updates.

The way I see it, I had no issues what so ever upgrading to windows 8 from 7 and never looked back, I even like the Metro Screen, I just use it as a advanced start menu and like it better than the windows 7 start menu regardless of how many people complained of having no start menu.

I have no idea what Windows 10 will offer have not really done any research on what to expect from the new OS am not really unhappy still with Windows 8.1 but going on past experience, with only the exception of Windows ME, the only way to go with windows OS systems for home users is forward so jump in with both feet and adapt to whatever need to be done, if you have an app that dont work then change the app for a more recent one that does, any hardware issues just upgrade the hardware or wait for a new driver what ever is easier, the truth is all the main stream hardware and software will adjust to suit windows 10 any obsolete issues that dont will be replaceable, so the benefits of moving forward always out weight those of sitting put.

I don't see what your all wound up about. This is a free upgrade, not get 2 for the price of one. Plus giving you a year to do it. Letting you try it for 30 days and if you don't like it you can go back to your old OS.

Think about it. If Chevy said if you own a 2013/2014 Camaro. Come on in and we will upgrade it for a 2015 model. Keep it for 30 days. If you don't like it we will give your old car back. Why would you think you would get to keep BOTH cars?

Car analogy doesn't translate well to software.

Personally I will be reinstalling Windows 7

That's not the issue. The issue is the unsuspecting user isn't aware his old license is being killed off after 30 days. If on the 31st day, he decides he didn't like Win10, he is doomed to stay stuck with Win10 forever!

It's kind of like trading in your old OS for a new one, with a 30 day trial period. Sounds perfectly reasonable to me.

And you're not stuck with it forever. You could buy Windows 7 or 8 again, or even switch to Linux.
