Under 70c When i open kombustor it runs at 100% with no spikes but, the temps where reaching 90c so, i stopped it

AMD GPUs can go up to around 115C. Please run it again, and only turn it off if it goes over 115-120C.

Have you tried switching the BIOS switch on the top of the card?

Kinda new to this never tried overclocking before

So anything below 115 is safe for the stress test? The thing is kombustor never stops automatically does it?

What switch are you talking about I have never heard of anything like this can you explain more?

Uhh. No. That's way too hot. I wouldn't want to have it above 85c, and preferably under 75 or so with gaming usage.

I bet your Phenom is choking in areas with lots of people. What temperatures are you getting with it? If you can, bump up the clock on it a little bit and see if it helps. If it does, then that's your issue. My 8320 and 7970 would run 60fps or so in WoW at Ultra settings in a lot of zones but going in to busy cities would drop it in to the 30s or even lower if it was crazy. It is a pretty old chip by this point.

It stays under 70c when gaming but, I was talking about when I open kombustor for a stress test it got close to 90c. I stopped it and temps dropped back to around 60c instantly.

Yes, I do notice the biggest drop in frame rate when there is a lot of people around. It still seems like my pc is under performing because my parts seem pretty good. I was kinda thinking it was my processor it's the only part I haven't updated in awhile. If that doesn't work I swear I'm gonna take sludge hammer to this pc and call it day lol

Unlocking the core in bios definitely helped a lot. I did that before I even made the this post, So I'm still looking for help. I really am thinking that it's just this amd processor. My gaming friends tell me that I should have went with Intel and now I'm going to need new motherboard :( I just don't want to spend another $400 to have unnoticeable results. I want a good gaming computer that will last for future games as well.

Update your video driver to Display Driver version 15.20.1062 for the R9 390. The one you have installed is dated 6/22/2015.
http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop?os=Windows 7 - 64

Your monitors native mode is 1280 x 720. Are you forcing 1600 x 900 or is it a option?

You can unlock cores in the bios, but like said the 965 has no more cores to unlock. You need a 960T which does have 6 cores.

Its updated not the problem. Using a hd tv with HDMI connection I am not sure if 1600x900 is forced. I have the option so that's what i picked and then had to enable gpu scaling to make the screen fit correctly. I used a acer monitor recommended settings 1600x900 same result

I was testing and I get the worst performance when other people are around me. I turned my power setting to high performance and used amd catalyst to boost my cpu to 3.7 ghz. It did help a little but, not where I want to be.

Another question is do you think the graphics card is slowing down because of heat issues? If the card actually ran at 100% usage like it does when I run kombustor it would easily go over 90c maybe some kind of safety net stops usage?

It runs at about 58-66c when running my games. The usage is spiking from 0-100 and with a average of 50-60%

Yes, it's probably your processor. Is your case M-ATX or ATX? Because I would recommend getting ATX if your case can support it.

Can you send a picture of the inside of your case so we can judge airflow? Also, are you sure that all your fans are pointed the right way (Front fan should be intake, rear fan should be exhaust.)?

Oh and by the way, wait for the new Intel CPUs. They'l be out within a few weeks.

How much is that going to cost? The airflow seems ok I have a after market cpu fan It's blowing at the graphics card

That might actually hurt airflow... Please, take a picture.

An ATX board will cost only about $20 more. Skylake, the new Intel CPUs, will cost the same amount but you may need new RAM, which could increase the cost overall.
