Thinking about building a new gaming rig... looking for advice

My budget is ~$1500 bucks. What would you guys suggest for components?
I'd recommend you wait until later this week towards next week, as that is when the new Intel Skylake processors will be out. I'd then recommend the i7-6700K, GTX 980Ti, 16GB DDR3/4, 250GB Samsung 850 Evo.

Any other tasks than straight gaming that you had in mind? Might sway the build if you said 'video editing' or some other heavily threaded work.

As above I'd see how Skylake pans out before making any purchasing decisions.

An i7 is pointless for a gaming rig. Stupid to waste a hundred bucks when it could go towards something better for a gaming rig, like an HDD.

Do you need a monitor, keyboard, or mouse? What are your current ones, if you already have them?

Replace the CPU and Motherboard with their Skylake successors, when they come out. Also, replace the RAM with DDR4 if that's what Skylake uses.

If you don't like the case, get another one from Corsair, NZXT, or Fractal Design. BTW, make sure to install Windows on the SSD and games on the HDD.

This is slightly over budget, but it's one of the best single card, LGA 1150 builds you can get right now. If you need to reduce the price, let us know.

I still would recommend waiting for Skylake, buying an already outdated i5 is not a good idea if you plan on using this for years to come. It sounds like an i7 is out of your budget, but a new i5-6600K would be a great choice.

If it sounded like I meant buy Haswell then buy Skylake later, sorry. I just put those there as placeholders, OP should wait and buy Skylake when it comes out.

Updated parts list. Removed the SSD, since that put the build way over budget when paired with the more expensive CPU, RAM, and the new HSF. The stuff I said in my first post in this thread still applies, and we need to know the answer to the monitor, keyboard, and mouse question.
