Modern KVM? ( Thunderbolt like solution for PC? )

Hi,

I have two laptops and they need to share:
1. One display.
2. One mouse.
3. One keyboard.

They are connected to different LAN (note LAN, I cannot connect each using WiFi).
And obviously each is connected to his own power supply.
One has a docking station ( the other docking is malfunctioning , I can get it fixed if the it will be the blocking factor for a good solution ).

So I using an old school KVM is too cumbersome and defeats the purpose of a clean and easy to use workstation. Since each has too many cumbersome cables.

Ideally I would prefer a solution that relies on wireless connection as much as possible ( WiDi ? ).

The more realistic solution is a KVM based on USB3 or any other protocol that can transfer #1/#2/#3 in one cable.
( When I had a MacBook Pro , the ThunderBolt connection to the display was perfect and solved it beautifully so if there is something equivalent for PCs that will be great).

Thanks,
Ohad.

So, by different LAN, you mean they are on different networks? You can use synergy to accomplish exactly what you want if both machines can see each other over the network.

Yep different networks , each network is connected to a different VPN , not sure if they can see each other.
Also in Synergy site they mention non-video and it mentions multiple displays and one keyboard/mouse , I want to share the display too :

Synergy combines your devices together in to one cohesive experience.
  • Seamlessly move your mouse to any computer and start typing.
  • Works on all major operating systems (Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux).
  • Share your clipboard (copy and paste) between your computers.
  • Drag and drop files from one computer to another (Windows and Mac OS X).
  • Encryption keeps sensitive data safe on public networks.
  • Network-based (IP) software KVM switch (non-video).
Another problem is that I'm not sure about Synergy license , if I purchase one if I can use it on work computers , since these are work computers , or do I need to purchase enterprise license.

What are you actually trying to accomplish?

Something like VNC or RDP would allow you to control the other PC from yours.

Oh sorry, I missed the "one display" part. Synergy lets you use a single keyboard/mouse across multiple machines and displays. So, a convention KVM switth is what you're looking for, but that's not what you want.

Beers mentioned using remote desktop, which may be the best solution as the network setup is generally irrelevant. You can use Window's Remote desktop, or a third party like open VNC or team viewer.

I'm trying to minimize the amount of cables in my workstation and make it easier for me to work on both computers.
Not sure if I can open a VNC from these computers , due to security reasons and because the different VPN networks block each other.
