Should I change from laptop to desktop?

My parents got me a laptop last year for 1.7k, and it seems pretty good, after all it did cost a lot. But I have been considering whether or not to change to a desktop since the main advantage of a laptop over a desktop is portability, and I dont really bring it around. Here are my specs:

Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-5500U CPU @ 2.40GHz
Video Card 1 Intel(R) HD Graphics 5500
Video Card 2 NVIDIA GeForce 940M
Memory 8.1 GB
Operating System Microsoft Windows 8.1 (build 9600), 64-bit

Im not big on com stuff, and I am not sure if my processor is really that great. I can play games at low graphic settings and get a decent frame rate, but would changing to a desktop help in any way? Again, I dont bring around my laptop that much, and I'm looking to see if getting an affordable desktop would be better. Hopefully around $600-800 for a decent one. Any ideas?

That sounds like a lot of cash for those specs..

Do you need extra things like monitor, keyboard/mouse etc as well?

you have to do litel work,to find what is best for you.
search for Price Wach,computers.
look at the desktop i7 price, there is few models, find what speed and price you like, you can buy one or you can build one, write down the parts whot are in god computer and price them out ,with Micro center parts.
then list what parts you like, and ask here if that is god and build yourself, loptop is garbage ageinst desktop,go with one 27" monitor or four monitors,i can not stand loptop monitors 15".

Looks like an expensive laptop! Would they be OK with you selling it? Hmmm...

At the end of the day it's a powerful machine. If you don't move it around a lot just get an external monitor and maybe a nice mouse and see how you get on with it before you get a desktop. One day you may decide to use it as a laptop, you never know.

I was just wondering, in what way is it worse than a desktop, since that's what a lot of people seem to think. I want to make the full use of this thing since it cost so much, but it doesn't run games as good as I would want it too. Any benefits of getting an external monitor? And how good is the processor really, I read up and it was ranked 44th percentile...

Well the external monitor would be bigger than your laptop display so if you use it at a desk it might be nice to have a big display.

The CPU is powerful, don't get bogged down by the numbers. It may not play games as well as a high-end desktop but for a laptop it will pay the games pretty well. Which games are you trying to play and at what settings?
