Need Help With Computer Upgrades

I have a Dell Xps Studio 8100 and I want to put about $300 into it so I can make it a decent gaming rig. First is it possible to do with that small of a budget? Second if not about how much more would I need to commit to the budget?

To be honest, that computer is pretty old and you should probably get a new one soon if you want to play future games at good graphical settings. However, you can buy a new GPU and PSU for it, which will allow it to play any current game at medium-high settings at 1080p if you get the 380X/CX550M which I am linking below, and you could reuse those parts later. Your CPU will be a slight bottleneck but it shouldn't be too bad.

Also, what resolution is your current monitor?

P.S. If you're willing to wait for a few months, the GTX 1060 will likely be quite a bit better than the 380X.

It looks like you could get it with an i3, i5 or i7 (first generation). Which CPU do you have in yours?

I couldn't tell you the monitor resolution but it's about as old as the computer. How long till the GTX 1060.

There is no GTX1060 in the pipeline yet, that name as of now is uncomfirmed, yes there is info and sites listing it, but there is no concrete info on specs or official release. Same goes for any of the unconfirmed but rumored Ti variants.

The new top dog GTX 1080 launches on May 27 @ $599 usd

The GTX 1070 launches on June 10 @ $379 usd

The info thread with pictures, prices, and other info is HERE

Usually the high-end cards like the *80 and the *70 series come first, then the *60 and *50 cards. The GTX 580 was launched in November or December 2010 and the 560 and 560 Ti came in January 2011. The GTX 680 came out in March 2012, the 670 in May 2012 and the 660 and 660 Ti in August 2012. The GTX 780 and 770 came out in May 2013 and the GTX 760 in June 2013. You get the idea. So if the GTX 1080 comes out at the end of May this year then we might be looking at a July, August or September launch for a 1060.

To clarify, what I've heard is the rest of the lineup could come in the fall..(Q4 2016) and I've also heard that the HBM2 equipped cards might be as long as Q1 2017.

I'd still think that at $379 the 1070 is gonna be a hot seller. It is specced well and is priced, in my opinion, extremely well for what you get. Again, no legit OC info or benchmarks that I've seen, but that 1070 looks killer!!
