Need Help on How to Finish an Aborted System Restore

Greetings.

I have a Gateway Silky Grey 10.1" LT41P05u Laptop with Windows 8. Recently I acquired adware and spyware on it after downloading some software from China for a CD player I bought.

I hit F8 and began a system restore. It was taking longer than what seemed normal so I shut down the computer. Now every time I try and restart it, I get a message saying "Preparing Automatic Repair."

About 45 seconds later it shows a 2nd message saying "Diagnosing Your PC." After another 45 seconds it shows a final message saying "Repairing Computer. This may take quite awhile."

I have left the computer on for hours, but it never seems to repair or do anything. I've tried pressing numerous other buttons and function keys, but it has no affect in doing anything.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do to try and be able to perform another System Restore?

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

I would just suggest reinstalling windows. Hopefully it has a recovery partition on it and you can boot to it to reinstall windows.

Problem is, I can't get the computer to respond to anything. I aborted a reinstall because I felt it was taking to long. What combination of buttons can I push to either have it properly restart or abort the repair sequence?

Your drive is screwed up now after you aborted an install. Start over and do a fresh install

But I try pushing different combinations of buttons and I still get the pattern that I mentioned above. Even when I pull out the battery and put it back I still get the same sequence of messages.

What other options do I have?

Might have to contact Gateway for support. Not sure if you can boot to a recovery partition on that model or if you have to do it within windows. Might have to order a usb recovery stick. Didn't you get the option to create 1 when you got the laptop?

I'd be amazed if you were able to salvage it at this point. Format the drive and reinstall Windows, I say. You'll need to find or create a bootable USB drive or even a CD with Windows 7 on it.

Take it as a lesson not to unplug or turn off a computer when it's doing stuff. Bad things happen.
