Up front...I'm not a big fan of in-app purchases, especially in regards to games. When looking for an app or game in Google Play or the Store in Windows 10, I almost always look for an app or game that has no in-app purchases. Some games have limited in-app purchases. Usually the cap on those in-game purchase is between 20-50 Euros (dollars). I've bought some of those and I think the prices are reasonable and comparable to purchasing a full version title. Subscriptions being an exception, I prefer paying for a software title only once. In-app purchases, Season Passes and such have too many strings attached. In those environments the developers would have their hands too deep in my pockets for my comfort.

Another con to the online in-app purchase scheme is the addiction factor. My oldest son has easily spent over 500 Euros on Pay-Safe purchases to feed the DC Universe beast.

What do you all think?

I didn't chose any of those options, I prefer to pay just a once off fee for the game
I hate in app purchases and have never paid a cent on them, on a matter of principle
Old gamers remember the days when you paid for a game and that was it you didn't pay a cent more
The latest generation spoiled it by spending money on these in app purchases, game companies wouldn't be doing what they are doing if people like your son were not spending money on in app purchases. It is obviously far more lucrative for them. In fact I felt so strongly about the issue, I wanted to start a games directory which only listed games which were 100% free of in game purchases.

In-app purchases are popular with kids cause their parents pay the bill.

If your paying his bill, cut him off... if not, none of your business then really..

100% agree. In the store, often you will find me browsing older discounted games.

This probably started back when companies like EA charged 10+ Euros for an expansion pack that only included a map or an extra mission. Even though users complained, they still coughed up the money for the experience. The expansion schemes EA used for Battlefield 2 are one of the greediest of the many examples.

I wanted to start a games directory which only listed games which were 100% free of in game purchases.

Not a bad idea.

Since my son works, I don't tell him how to spend his money. On one occasion he actually made a profit playing DC Universe. But like most money schemes, gains were eaten by emotional, impulsive investment. I won't intervene just yet. His experience needs to sting a little first. ;)

I'm not a father yet, but my wife has 2 kids from a previous relationship and one of them plays a few tablet/phone type games and he learned the hard way what happens when he 'buys' something for 'free' on the game.

Course he is only 6..so its easy to take stuff away :)

I'm currently playing Family Guy: The Quest for Stuff.
It's one of those games where you wind up performing an action and waiting hours for it to complete, or you pay through the games currency to speed it along.
I rack up Google Play credit with Google Opinion Rewards, so it doesn't cost me anything. But you can blow through that pretty quick if you keep buying in-game credit.

I hate in-app purchases. Games like TF2, Overwatch, etc. all have a market where you can buy keys, items, crates, etc. I've spent way more than I'd like to know on those games...
