Upgrading ram on my pc.

So i currently have (2x4gb) 8GB 240-Pin DDR3 1866 sticks of ram in my pc. My motherboard has 2 more slots open so that would mean it supports quad channel right? Would you all recommend 4x4gb or 2x8gb for my pc? buying 2 more 4gb is about 1/2 the cost and will save me alot, but I am willing to pay more if there is a decent difference in performance.

Thanks,
Eric

You should check in your task manager to see how much of your RAM is actually in use, if your available option is less that 25 percent of your total RAM then you might want to add more.
Don't think RAM will actually make your system faster rather allow your computer to process more things at once. Have your tried overclocking your RAM?? Gskill RAM usually can overclock fairly decent.

Not really, a stick doesn't mean a channel on the controller. It'd be dual channel on Z77 with 4 sticks. You can get either capacity you want, with 2x8 added to your existing 2x4 you'd end up with 24 GB instead of 16 GB wirh 4x4 respectively. You'd just want to balance the capacity of each memory channel with the same amount of RAM and buy sticks that are either the same model or have exactingly similar specs for frequency/voltage/timings
