AMD A12-Series A12-9700P v. Core i3/i5

I'm looking at buying this Acer laptop. It has an AMD A12-Series A12-9700P CPU. My current laptop has a Core i3 @ 2.4 GHz with no turbo boost. The specs on the AMD show faster numbers and more cores. But actual tests I've read about on the web claim that it doesn't perform as well as Intel's chips. Would the AMD CPU be better than what I have now? If I bought a different laptop, it would probably have an i3 or i5 in it. I don't play any serious games. I mainly surf, use Office, and Skype, and frequently multi-task with several windows and programs open.

Regardless of whether it'd be faster, AMD for mobile has horrible power draw vs perf. Expect to deal with a much bulkier battery or have less battery capacity.

Also I worked at a computer repair shop, and a good 60% of the laptops I saw come in for repair due to HW failures were ACER.
I would avoid. Lenovo is quite sheit now too.

The performance of the A12-9700P is between the two 15-Watt processors A10-9600P and FX-9800P, and therefore roughly on par with a 15-Watt Core i3 from the Skylake or Kaby Lake series, respectively. Compared to the Intel model, the AMD chip has a small advantage in multi-thread scenarios, but is beaten when you only stress one or two cores. Due to the TDP limitation, the performance of the A12-9700P will drop significantly under sustained workloads.

Great site for laptops. I do agree that Acer is trash though :)

Old Acers suck, new ones are quite a bit better I'd say. I'd take 'em over HP or Toshiba.
