Did anybody get a Nintendo Switch today? Today was launch day. Just wondering if anybody got it and if you have any thoughts to share about your new console?

While I think they're cool, the hardware BARELY handles 1080P video, and I don't like most of Nintendo's titles. So it will be another pass for me unfortunately.

For the record, the newest Nintendo console in my house is a Wii.

Nah, never liked Nintendo games and consoles in general
You'd probably feel different if you grew up in Nintendos heyday, before SEGA, before SONY PS, before XBOX,..

That original NES will always hold a special part of me cause it was a big part of gaming for me as a youth in the 80's. I remember getting my very first NES from my father in Hawaii of all places during an XMAS vacation, and he even somehow found a Japanese Ed. of original Mario Bros. cartridge, without Duck Hunt on it!! (I am kicking myself for not hoarding the shit outta that)

I loved the N64 and mario party. I was a gun at slot-car races, but pretty shit at everything else. Was a blast during uni days.

I really liked the N64, but I would never buy a Nintendo console after that.
I think eventually the Nintendo console will go the way of sega, and eventually they will stop selling consoles.

The Switch is a disaster. Youtube is full of vids of people having hardware issues. Non functional screens, whacked out gamma, screeching sounds, joycons that dont work, the screen scratches IN THE DOCK on the first day for pretty much everybody... shoddy build quality. Framerates that dip into the TEENS for zelda in docked mode... it just goes on and on.

Total disaster. This will be Nintendo's last console. Idiots. They've been screwing up since Gamecube. N64 was their last good console. Other than that it's all been garbage.

Shit, that escalated quickly...

That's pretty bad, especially considering the price and you don't get the pro controller or any games with it. Pass.

Watching the screeching sound video hurt my ears, wtf is that? Is it cpu screaming when you put it in boiling water but that's just the air escaping? lol

To me it looks like a kids console.
I might have bought one if i had a kid. Would still wait for the price to come down though, because i it's clearly overpriced.

  • You don't get 1080p in most games due to poor performance. (it's 2017 Nintendo. That's pathetic)
  • You get a cheap plastic dock, and a cheap plastic screen (very easy to scratch)
  • The controls are awkward (so i have heard, and it really looks like it). So you will have to go buy the overpriced pro controller
  • Has only 3 hours gameplay on the battery.
  • You only get 32gig internal storrage (7 gig dedicated to the OS).
  • No app store of any kind. So no Netflix and what not.

This is yet another fail from Nintendo in my book.

If all these things turn out to be the wide-spread reality for the Switch, and not just isolated issues, that's definitely a shame. I love Nintendo but their demise has been a long time coming - I guess it should have been kinda expected seeing that they based this entire new console launch solely on the new 'Zelda' title - and what seems like virtually nothing else.

The non-traditional button layout of the Joy Cons, coupled with larger hands means the added cost of a 'Pro' controller puts a bad taste in my mouth. Others may not have issues but the base system just looks uncomfortable to hold.

I still wanna play Zelda, just cause its Zelda - I still think it looks like a sloppy cartoon moving around the screen, but whatever.

Speaking of bad taste, has anyone heard the rumors that Nintendo coated the game cartridges with a chemical that if put in mouth (i.e. little kid or animal) it releases a horrible, bitter taste, this apparently in a bid to prevent choking.

There is a bitterant Applied to the cartridges. Lots of videos of people tasting them on YouTube because people are stupid
Yeah I saw a thumbnail for a video on that and didn't even bother clicking on it because I was like why TF would people do that? People are Fkuin stupid.

Seriously though-- either Nintendo is run by morons or they are purposely trying to destroy their own company. Wii was their biggest system ever because casual gamers bought it. They're not going to strike gold like that twice. Wii u was a failure and now switch will be an even bigger failure. Hell, gamecube was a failure too. Nintendo hasn't won a generation outright except for Wii, SNES, and NES. They have come in second or third or worse in all other generations. Look at Virtual Boy as an example of their crackpot theories on what will work in the market. That was one of the biggest system failures of all time if not the biggest.

Nintendo used to have awesome games from lots of third parties but they started to abandon Nintendo around Gamecube. Nintendo started screwing up their first party stuff around Gamecube too by licensing properties out to other companies to make games. Those second party F Zero and Starfox games were absolute garbage, and drove me to sell my Gamecube.

Nintendo seems to think that they can succeed by being "different". Meanwhile, being different has only gotten them success ONCE (Wii) and failure so many other times. Why don't they pull their heads out of their asses and make a machine that has PS4 PRO level of power along with fun first party nintendo titles, and decent third party support?

They are doomed to become like Sega and just make games for other consoles.

The fact that the Switch scratches ITSELF in its own dock is just evidence of how idiotic this company has become.

I agree, when the switch was first announced I was like "meh". Such a bad launch, it's like they picked the absolute lowest bidder to develop the hardware and just completely shit the bed with the software. This is worse then the RROD with the 360.

This WILL be Nintendo's last cons

ole. Watch them shut down 3DS production next and put all their eggs in the surely-doomed Switch basket. Idiots.... God they're idiots...

I sometimes wonder if Satoru Iwata just stood back and took a look at what his once proud company had become one day and killed himself.

Let's review the facts:

Switch has the same guts as a Shield tablet Nvidia retails for MUCH less (that has a better screen)

Switch has the weakest launch library like... ever?

Switch screen scratches ITSELF in its OWN DOCK (tons of reports of this)

Left Joycons de-sync (levels of this are epidemic)

Gamma glitches (widespread)

Not recognizing carts when inserted in the console (widespread)

the SKREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEECH sound (widespread)

System is a brick out of the box (less common but fairly widespread)

Performance is WORSE when docked than undocked in Zelda (by a lot)

______

And those aren't even considering the nonsense that's baked into the design. Can't use a bluetooth headset? Got to use my phone for matchmaking and online chat? 1080P when all other consoles going 4K? Going ARM when other consoles are X86 which, combined with piss-poor perf levels=no ports of good games from other consoles.

I was at a gamestop a month ago and the guy behind the counter said "Are you excited for Switch? Have you preordered?" And I laughed at him. I couldn't contain myself. I probably
shouldn't have done that.

PLEASE WATCH THE FOLLOWING! YOU'LL LAUGH, YOU'LL CRY, YOU'LL HURL!

^CRINGEtendo. Lots of HW failures.

I can't believe that wouldn't come up in their testing. Surely they docked and undocked more than one console.

That's not the end of the world, can make a big difference in cost. You're right that you do lose out in performance though.
1080P when all other consoles going 4K?
I can live without 4k. Especially from something that is really just a handheld you can put on a bigger screen.

Still, it's hard for me to be interested in nintendo. I don't even play games that much anymore, so it should make a lot of sense. And yet, the last Nintendo thing I had was a DS and before that an N64. I just have no interest in in their offerings. The only reason to even consider nintendo is The Legend of Zelda, and even that doesn't sell the console to me.
