Upgrading to 4.4GHz

Okay. I bought a 4.4GHz AMD processor on eBAY cheap! Now I find I can't just install it on my old motherboard that I am running a 4.2 GHz processor on. I will have to start all over again with a new motherboard and all the other consequent nonsense you have to have to run a computer with. Money! I don't have it!

Did you buy an FX-9370 (220W) for a board that barely supports 125W CPUs?
These chips were, for a while, only sold together with high end motherboards and liquid cooling.

why would you pay anything to 'upgrade' from 4.2 ---> 4.4?? I don't see how that makes any relevant change whatsoever.

Well like Jiniix said, he probably got the 9370 which is a pretty big upgrade from his FX 4350. That's probably the case since his 760G board doesn't support it.

If you were only concerned about the clock speed you could have bumped the 4350 up to 4.4 GHz with a multiplier overclock.

Frequency isn't everything, as per others the 9370 will destroy your current motherboard as it only has a 4+1 VRM setup.

I don't know how to overclock.

Ok then, just know that no matter what CPU you have going from 4.2 to 4.4 Ghz is a very minor improvement. If you want to upgrade, then look at benchmarks not at clockspeed. For your board, the best CPU I'd get is the FX 8300 because it's a 95w chip. But I wouldn't buy a FX chip in April of 2017 though.
