My S3 did this. Just would get hotter and hotter and kill the battery. It's runaway drain. Just restart it when it does this and should stop. Not surprising on an older phone/battery.
If you ignore things like 'actual hardware components' then sure!every bit as good imo for less than half the price.

I would recommend the Samsung J7, I fail to see how the S models justify the extra price over the J7, every bit as good imo for less than half the price.
The J7 has less LTE band support, a slower CAT4 LTE modem, 720p vs 2.5k resolution display, much slower processor, 16GB vs 32GB of storage, 2.4GHz only WiFi vs 802.11ac, and cheap plastic with large bezels vs glass.Ok name one thing that the S7 can to that the J7 can't, even if the hardware is superior, then Justify the fact that the fact that the S7 retails for around £500 where as the J7 is around £180

It's no different than buying a $300 Acer laptop vs a $1500 Dell laptop, saying they both can browse the web so why pay more?
This is really getting off topic.
The main issue with your argument is that you indicate products are equivalent when in reality they have vast differences.
We see that you love your j7, which is great, but what does it have to do with an overhearing Galaxy S2 ?
I can understand your viewpoint, and since you are someone who does the bare minimum on a smartphone I can see why you don't need those extra features. But just like how some don't need the extra graphics horsepower of a $2k laptop, there are some that do, and I'm one of those that need and appreciate those extra features on a smartphone. The 2.4GHz only WiFi is a major issue since most WiFi deployments these days are planned and geared around 5GHz, and the extra band support allows me to use the phone to the full extent for speed and coverage the carrier can provide. Not really, not in my opinion at least, does a phone really need that extra power, there both going to run all the same apps, and I bet you will only notice the extra power of the S7 if your going to leave all your apps open at the same time, so basically the S7 give you the leverage to not bother closing off your apps to run the next one, even though you can only really view one app at a time anyway so you may as well close them off and run then one at a time in practice. But then you can still run a few of apps on the J7 before you really start to notice and lag, so really the S7 just allows you to leave more apps open in the back ground.
As for capacity, its nothing a SD card wont resolve, and virtually everything designed for a Smart Phone is compact in terms of bandwidth requirements, so how often really are you going to be needing the extra Wifi / modem speed to transfer huge files with your phone.
OK better screen resolution, I can appreciate that to some extent, but its not like no matter how good the screen is, my smart phone is going to be replacing the TV anytime soon, so for the most part when your just using the phone to function, checking emails, google maps or whatever, its not like your really going appreciate the extra resolution unless your planning on watching a Movie or something on your phone.
As for the aesthetics if you had ether phone would it not spend near its entire life in a flip case anyway so you never get to see it.
Where as with your laptop examples, there are plenty of examples where a more powerful Laptop will prove more useful in many cases even essential, if you need the graphics power for example the $1500 will give you over over the cheaper option, and even then its all about what you want to do with your Laptop, if you just want to go online then the cheaper option ism probably a better choice, unless you have plans and know why you need the extra power.
Well if your phone is overheating and changing the battery does not resolve the issue, then I guess your in the market for a new phone, and am just saying right now at this very moment, the J7 is a very good choice when you write "value for money" into the equation.
