Foiled by trash Asus software

Shoulda known better but thought, hey been a while since I owned an Asus board-- surely their AI Suite 3 isn't complete trash like their software has been for years.

WRONG!

So after several blue screens and figuring out the culprit..I dumped every last piece of Asus software and lo and behold...no more crashes or blue screens.

My question, what is recommended for controlling fans theses day - the AI suite 3 fan controls were good but the overall shittiness of the whole package was a deal breaker..

Anyhow.. recommendations please.

Any one of them on Newegg with high ratings and lots of reviews.

You can try SpeedFan and see if it recognizes your fans or not.

Don't you need 4-pin fans to utilize a physical controller? only a few of mine are..
No. The one built into my case is pretty basic, just a low medium and high setting. If you're talking about ones that respond to your current RPM and adjust for temps and the like yeah I think so but basic just "more speed or less speed" controllers work with any of them. I think the plugs for mine only use 2 of the 3 pins anyway.

Yeah, I just need something to control low/high ..pretty much so i can ramp it up when gaming..benching..etc. dont care much about noise,...PC is pretty silent as is.

Awesome guys..thanks for the recommendation and info

I used to use the BitFenix Recon when I had 11 fans in my case. It has temperature leads and it works well. You'll want to get 4-pin PWM fans if I remember right.
I would keep your CPU fan on the motherboard header though, the internal thermal sensor is a lot more accurate.

Hmm.. interesting cause its the CPU fan I wanted easy access control over the most...

Ah dude you have the UEFI 'BIOS'! Should be straight forward fan control. On the Gigabyte Aorus motherboard I recently installed, it had UEFI and it was awesome. Controlled every fan attached with just two clicks, no need to adjust voltages yourself at all.

I could watch in real time the case fans speed up and slow down with the keyboard.

The only way to tell if it has 3 pin voltage control or 4 pin PWM control is to look at your user manual. In my experience, every manufacturer makes it obvious if it's voltage or PWM control.
