Hi, want to upgrade my pre built pc. I would really like to change the case and a couple of parts but also keep a few. I would most likely keep my ram and cpu. My only problem is that i want to get a new motherboard as this one is and looks really bad. So my question is would i have any problems with switching my ram and cpu over to a new motherboard and would i have to buy windows 10 again? The pc came with windows 8.

Thanks in advance :)

If you change motherboard, then yes you'll have to buy a new copy of 10 for that machine.

What cpu and ram do you have?

Thanks for the reply, i have got an i7 4770 and 16 gb of ddr3 ram. Where would be the cheapest place to get a copy of windows 10? And btw now is not the right time to get a gpu is it?

Windows 10 Home 64-bit OEM is like $99 on Newegg.com, you can check on Microsoft official site but likely gonna be more. I wouldn't bother with Pro version..more money for no reason.

Only you know if now is the right time to buy a GPU, if money is there and you need one buy one.. if not, wait..save...buy later.

Keep in mind, you will more than likely need a new power supply too. Pre-Builts are notorious for using cheap, Chinese units, with over-rated wattage and such. If you went with say a GTX 1060 you might wanna look at a decent 550W unit, from a brand like Corsair, Seasonic, ..etc.

A PC at work went dead. We got a new PC, took the hard drive out of the fried one (With win10 installed), plugged in the HDD to the new PC and to my surprise, it loaded up and worked fine. First time I have ever seen this as I know Windows can be funny, especially when it comes to changing certain components. This worked fine for me and the PC is still being used. Hope this helped!

FYI, the PC'S are both HP, so this could have something to do with it.

Alot of the gpu are out of stock though and are higher up in price than normal thats why i was asking if it was the right time. I dont want to be wasting money on a fresh copy of windows 10 as that could be put towards getting a better gpu. Do you really think i could somehow work around it without having to buy windows 10 and just get a new mobo, and if i do get one which would you guys recommend. I have got a micro atx atm but should i get a different form factor? Dont know what case to get aswell, was thinking about the nzxt s340.

As its an OEM license and as long as it detects an HP system it will be fine.

No, you will need a new license. Going from OEM to retail motherboard.

Well then is there any point of getting a new motherboard? Would i not be better off putting that money towards something else, i could save alot by not getting a mobo + win 10. Thing with this is that mobo will look ugly in case so might aswell just get a case with no side panel then.

So it is an HP system. If you get a new motherboard, you'll definitely need a new copy of windows and you'll have to do a fresh install. The only minor problem with transferring the HP motherboard into a retail case is the front panel connectors for power and hdd. Sometimes the cables in the HP case are labeled what they are so just keep track of what goes where. You'll need to new power supply if you want a dedicated video card.

Well here in USA, the 1150 boards are starting to die out and not sure what is available in your country. What online website can you order from? Are you wanting a full atx board or microatx?

Ireland, and I'm not sure if I want a atx or micro atx. I was thinking about the s340 case so maybe a full atx would be better?
