Windows 98 SE on an old AMD laptop?

Laptop specs:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core TK-57 1.9GHz
RAM: 2GB

That's all I know.

I'd like to play DOS games natively, but I'm not sure how far I have to go back for an old rig to try this out on.

Can I just format the HDD and install Win98 on it? Will it work? Can I get drivers for the thing?

I doubt very seriously if you'll find drivers for everything. Was XP original OS on this laptop?

You can just install that into VMware player if needed.

I don't know what it had originally. I could ask.

I am not experienced with VMware stuff.

Windows 10 works, though.
