You will get so many different answers to this question that it is not worth asking on a board like this. I use Linux Mint and Xubuntu. I don't use either extensively because you have be a committed geek to get them to work anywhere near as good as Windows or even (dare I say it|) an Apple OS. having said that try it yourself. It is the only way you will know whether it's for you or not. You don't have to install it you can try it from a live DVD or USB stick (using Universal USB installer from here:- https://www.pendrivelinux.com/universal-usb-installer-easy-as-1-2-3/ ) You can, even, dual boot it from the installer if you prefer or you can run it inside a virtual machine. Lots of ways you try it and lots of distros out there to try.

Linux is amazing in my opinion. There are many different distros, however I have used Lubuntu before, and I enjoyed it. Linux Mint is nice too.

As I said Gabe will get as many differing opinions as there are people in the world. It is so easy to try without committing yourself it's a no brainer. Give it a try yourself Gabe.

I use Linux Mint for about everything now because Windows 10 is such an abomination. Linux Mint is a great operating system. I would recommend 64-bit Linux Mint 18. All I use Windows 7 for now pretty much is video games.

Windows 10 is terrible. It is bad because of the awful graphic user interface, the constant data mining it does and the forced software updates you cannot turn off. Some of these software updates can change settings and remove or break software on your computer. Excuse me, I thought it was my computer. You can see Microsoft has lost its vision of what made it big in the past. They do not care about giving users a quality product anymore or doing what is right for customers who purchase the Windows 10 operating system.

Anyway, Linux Mint has come a long way so I do not have to put up with an inferior operating system anymore. If one wants to download Linux Mint version 18 go to the link below. I prefer the Mate user interface using the 64-bit version.

I don't entirely disagree with this. The huge problem is that 99.999999999999% of the world is using Windows. The massive massive problem for new users of Linux is the geek way of installing programs. I don't care what anyone says, especially committed Linux users who will be biased, Linux is not easy for beginners. I still say to new users to try it. I will give Linux its due it is very easy to just try it, without destroying your Windows install, in a couple of ways. I do use Linux myself but there is no way in the world I would tell a new Linux user to just go with it.

Debatable. Instead of browsing out to get some software you need you can leverage the package management platform, installation already executes and the software is immediately usable. Contrast that to Windows where you have to manually intervene through additional steps and manually manage each installation package etc.

I agree that compiling crap from source for software not in a repo is somewhat of a pain, but not hugely difficult for anyone mildly competent.

I'd switch to Linux or any other OS in a heartbeat if it supported all games and programs Windows does, Microsoft is a greedy selfish company. (well they're not as bad as Apple, but they're close)

if you are a programmer, i think linux is right for you. I have tried the experience, previously I used windows and then I switched over to ubuntu, my first impression is that it boots very fast, the difficulty I encountered was when I installed the application on Linux, It's a bit difficult for people not familiar with the command line; and most of the familiar applications on the windows I can not use :(

I really disagree with you, in my opinion windows 10 is the most complete windows version of microsoft (from win 7 onwards), it than in the user interface and experience in manipulation. Of course, that is the opinion of each person, i see microsoft really doing very well with win 10

Yep, all complete with privacy issues and everything. Oh, and let's not forget the bloatware, or ads. The whole package. Truthfully, Windows 10 is too complete.

People that complain about privacy issues on W10 amuse because they're a 99 percent chance you've got a phone in your pocket that tracks your every move and everything about you.

Not saying it makes it okay on W10, but I still find it mildly ironic considering nobody really talks about that.
