Dead hard drive after hurricane

I have a HP Envy TS 17 notebook PC in which my hard drive completely died. I just got a used one but completely clean from an eBay vendor. My problem now is no OS. I had W8 in the damaged drive but any other OS will do until I get upgraded to W8 or W10.

Can anybody direct me into how to get a boot disc or whatever I may need to get it going.

This all happened when picking things up before the hurricane Maria made landfall here in Puerto Rico. Finally I got electricity back and also internet and is when I turned it on to find out the drive was dead. I remember dropping it with a whole bunch of things I had with me when I slipped on the wet floor and all flew.

Please help

Unfortunately, with this being OEM you won't get able to reuse existing OS license. If its the exact same laptop, then you could if you had a recovery dvd set to reinstall. If its a totally different model and vendor, you are out of luck.

So you have the exact same laptop as the original? What is the exact model number of the laptop you have? HP may have recovery dvd's available for around $25 or so. If not available then you'll just have to buy an OS which is roughly 90-100 bucks.

Your specific model is this.

17-j017cl

You just have to find your serial number.

So access the link, click on order recovery media at the bottom. Make sure operating system says Windows 8 or you won't get the option for recovery media. Select the exact model I listed and it will take you to a different page to where you enter your information including the serial number.
