GPU Prices Skyrocketed...

I know I already made a thread like this one. But now high end cards are even more expensive! The cheapest GTX 1070 on PCPP is over $600 bucks. Is this increase in price still because of crypto-mining, or is it something else now?

People mine for crypto currencies using GPU's, basically running it at full load and getting money in return (obviously more complicated than that but basic idea). High demand for fast GPU's to mine with makes the prices go up since more people want them and there's less availability.

Thank you. I was wondering why the current supply of video cards at newegg and micro center seems very crappy! But, wouldn't this be a CPU intensive operation, not a GPU intensive one? How could the GPU be processing this? Thank you.

I'm not a computer engineer but essentially the architecture of a GPU is very effecient at doing a certain kind of math while CPU's are broader in how they do things. GPU's architecture makes them more efficient at mining than a CPU (although you still can do it). Google around on the subject, I don't know enough about it to give you detailed explanations, just know the basic functionality.

Just bought a GTX 1050 TI. I had to bite the bullet before the damn things go past $300. As of now I'm still stuck with a damn GTX 560 TI I bought from EVGA's B-stock website about 6 years ago. It seems to still function normally though after all these years. When I get my new card I plan on finally buying GTA V. I have played every GTA except that one. Granted, I played GTA IV on my Bro's Comp.

ive been mining for a while now, making 10-20 usd per day using nice hash,

good thing i never sell any of my old computers, it came in handy! using a couple of 10 year old computers for my mining rig

waiting for my mining case from china i ordered on ebay

Around the beginning of 2018 cards reached the 3-4 month payback range--whenever that happens, everything gets sold out. So many people I know are building mining computers--even my one coworker who never had built a computer before has 6 1080/1080 Tis now. I have 9 1070-1080 Tis at the moment.

My advice if you're trying to find a card is to subscribe to the Google Groups that http://www.nowinstock.net has--you'll get notifications as soon as cards become available, but note they are generally sold out in less than 2-3 minutes once stock arrives. Typical prices that I've seen in stock in the last few days:

1070 - $500-520 USD
1070 Ti - $530-550
1080 - $580-620
1080 Ti - $750-850

It's pathetic. I bought a GTX 1070 Founders Edition last year for $350. I could literally sell it now, make money off it, and buy a GTX 1080Ti.

I'm thinking about selling my 1070. I got it off ebay for like $150 a few months ago, so huge profit for me.

Do it, add a bit of money and get a 1080 ti
I'm gonna put it on Ebay probably this weekend then. I have a spare 950TI so that will be good enough until I get a 1080TI.

Edit: Did I say 950 TI? Wtf. I meant 750TI lol.
