Gigabyte Mechanical Keyboard

Once you go mechanical you'll never want to type on anything else. Familiarize yourself with the different types of keys; some are smooth some offer resistance, and some click while others are quiet. There are plenty of YouTube videos explaining the difference

I'd probably spend a little more. It'll be better than a membrane keyboard but I've heard those boards in particular have poor quality control.

From what I gathered, the Red switch is linear with no feedback. I think Reds will work great for my use.

Ah the Gigabytes in particular? Well that's a bummer. Could be why the price dropped so drastically.

I love red and really like brown. I have a blue as a backup; great feel and feedback but the noise gets to me after a day or so. Corsair makes amazing keyboards, but you pay for the build quality. Totally worth it though.

I went ahead and ordered the Gigabyte with reds. If it feels cheap or something is off, I guess I could always return it, but at $38 I don't see that happening.
I know it doesn't have a lot of features, but honestly I've never owned keyboards with anything beyond multimedia keys. I'm really quite excited it has Cherry MX's.

Another reason it caught my eye was because it reminds me of the Dell keyboards we used back in high school (mid-2000's). I loved those keyboards.

I've been using the K83 with Reds for several days now. It's incredible. The weight of the keyboard itself is quite a bit heavier than I expected, like that of a new born baby haha. I would not want to get hit in the head by this keyboard. It feels like the housing is made of a heavy metal. The keys seem like they are of great quality. I can definitely see the keys lasting as long as a typical keyboard.

But the switches, my God. I did not expect this much of a difference. The responsiveness is nothing short of amazing. Although they're Red 'linear' keys, they're quite noisy. And it's awesome.

Also, as silly as it is, the feel reminds me so much of the older Dell keyboards.

For $38, this purchase is definitely up there with the SSD and i5-8400 upgrade. A night and day difference.

Mech keys are pretty sweet. If you don't like the noise when it bottoms out, you can get a set of o-rings you can put underneath the keycaps that will dampen the noise. It reduces the travel slightly, but it's a compromise people are willing to take if they can't take the noise.

I use the Cherry MX Clears myself and I honestly won't go back to even the other Cherry switches. I've tried the blues and browns before and had previously owned and used the cherry reds.

The reason I advised against it is I saw on reddit a guy that bought that and his F4 key was rotated wrong but was still stamped. Basically their quality control doesn't even check if the keys are facing the right way.

My mechanical keyboard is a relatively cheap one, was like $80 bucks I think, but it definitely is a huge upgrade over any regular keyboard.
