New build Samsung 970 evo fail

I've just put together a new build (mobo, cpu, ram, and the subject hard drive). On initial install of Win 10 Pro, everything went ok. It was running. I shut it off,and the next day I began installing software, starting with Fling, an ftp utility, which I've used for years. Sometime during the download or installation of this (can't remember exactly when), I got a restart prompt. On restart, I was taken to the Win 10 repair process, which fails, so I wind up in a command prompt, where I can find no trace of my hard drive. The drive is present in BIOS with indication of the Widows MBR. However, I am unable to access the drive in any other way, and I cannot reinstall Windows because it cannot see the drive either. The only drive that shows up on Win install is the UBS that the Windows install is on. Is this a failure of the SSD or what? In Diskpart, Listdisk does not show the drive.

I cannot try this drive on another computer because I don't have another m.2 slot anywhere.

The next day, I went to work on this computer, and it started up as if nothing had happened. I suspect this had something to do with Windows activation, but who knows.
