Remotely locking a computer down

An ex-employee has walked off the job with one of our company laptops. The funny thing is that our remote software is installed on this particular laptop and I can remote in to it.

This ex-employee has been contacted numerous times to return the laptop, but refuses.

What steps could I take to lock this laptop down remotely. I need something quick to avoid this ex-employee from turning off the computer.

Thanks,

How are you able to remote into it, what software are you using? A lot of times you can "mute" the mouse and keyboard so the user can't control it while you're on it.

Are you just trying to make it unusable to encourage them returning it? Regardless of remoting in, I'd just contact the cops. He stole your property, you know who he is, likely where he is since he's an employee. Knock on the door from a cop might be some good encouragement to return it.

We use ScreenConnect as our remote software. There is a "block" setting on there but he may turn the thing off before I finish doing whatever it is I need to do. I need something quick and simple. A script of some kind that I can copy and paste into his notepad then save it as a .bat file then run it.

Basically, it's a perfect opportunity to have a little fun with the guy.

I just want to have him not be able to login again. Once he returns the laptop I'll retrieve his data for him.

If this was me, and this little bastard stole my laptop, I'd remote in, grab the IP address he's connected to and tell the police about the stolen laptop and report the IP the laptop reports back. Then the police can subpoena the ISP attached to that IP address, get a warrant and arrest ass clown.

Perhaps once you have this Info. you can let him know what will happen if he doesn't return the laptop.
