I am trying to troubleshoot a new Akasa usb-c front panel which seems to have either a faulty usb-c port or some kind of firmware or driver issue.

https://www.scan.co.uk/products/aka...31-gen2-type-c-and-2-x-usb-31-gen1-connection

Already contacted Akasa who are consulting with engineers in Asia apparently.

below is a copy of my email which describe the problem and my testing

ME - Hi @Akasa_tw i just fitted one of your usb- C front panel units, however when i connect a device via the type C port it will only charge & is not seen by the pc, when the same devices are connected via type A port they are fully detected

Hello James,
Thank you for the information and clarification.
Have you ensured you have the latest USB 3.1 drivers too?

If so and it still is not working, please do try the below procedure to ensure, Windows default drivers have loaded correctly:
1./ Turn your system off
2./ Unplug all the internal USB cable connecting your AK-ICR-32 to your system
3./ Turn your system on and wait for Windows 10 to load
4./ Turn your system off again
5./ Re-plug the internal USB cable connecting your AK-ICR-32 to your system - ensuring good and correct contact
6./ Turn your system on and wait for Windows 10 default drivers to load
7./ Try again to see if the mobile device is detected under Device Manager
Kind regards,
Ivan

Hello Ivan

I had the most up to date usb 3.1 drivers installed and tried uninstalling then reinstalling them, this made no difference.

However after testing with various cables to ensure it was not a bad cable, I think i have narrowed the problem down to either a firmware problem with the Akasa front panel unit or a faulty usb-C port.

I have got the device to fully detect and can transfer files, however it will only detect when the usb-C cable is plugged in with a certain orientation and as i am sure you know usb-C is a reversible connector which should connect in any orientation.

I have tried the different orientations at the device end and it accepts either, so the problem seems to only exist at the Akasa front panel end
.

Do you have any idea if i have a faulty type-C port or if it could be some kind of firmware or driver issue ?

AKASA - I am double checking with our engineers in Asia and will get back to you ASAP if we can provide further insight or solutions.

Thank you in advance for your patience.

Thanks Darren, if they send me another out i`ll keep hold of it, but think i`ll just leave this one in as long as the port works, rather plug cable in a certain way then take it back out and fit another.
