So I got to say I am kind of and kind of not surprised.

I am surprised for the fact that I thought if Microsoft was going to build a browser on an open source technology they would have not picked there direct competitor and would have used something like Firefox to build off of.

On the other note I think Microsoft has realized that Edge just sucks and it is time to build on a proven core technology that works. I think after Windows Phone they realized that to many reboots of a product is dangerous and they need to get this done right! At my work we have tested Edge about every six months as deploying Chrome makes me sick but, Edge just blow chunks and has something that fails every time which prevents us from mass deploying the technology.

Personally for me, I feel Google is the Microsoft of the last decade and is almost unstoppable. So as I always say, "You sometimes have to pick the less of two evils" which lately seems to be Microsoft. Being the dominance Google has with Chrome I would like to see something compete even if that means using the same technology.

What is your thoughts?

I don't like that Google is taking over the world but they sure do make it convenient...

Edge was dead before it ever got off the ground. IE was a dumpster fire and they couldn't shake that sentiment even though Edge was significantly quicker and did have some functionality. I wanted to like it but I sold my soul to Google too long ago and I'm just baked into Chrome usage now.

Exactly my point on google being the M$ of the last decade....

I agree with you and personally one thing I will give Edge is the web developer tools is far superior to Chrome and FF, in my opinion anyway.

I loved Chrome and especially the new look they went with recently. The only reason I left Google Chrome was that I was having some buggy issues when developing on Wordpress under Chrome. Recently moved back to FF and I am glad I have as it really blows the doors of Chrome (opinion).

Though, I do like the idea of Google having some competition so, I hope M$ can pull it off and build a somewhat decent browser. If built on Chromium I will probably have the web compatibility I need as long as they build a somewhat decent sync function out of the gate with Android support I actually may try to adopt both at home and at work.
