Recommend a Printer

I'm looking to get a printer that will initially be for personal use, but after a few months I will use for a small business. I assume the laser printers are the best option because I need something that just prints black, can print thousands of pages, and hopefully has ink cartridge that is not too expensive. I was leaning towards an HP printer but all of them seem to be in white, which is fine, but I would prefer a black one (that's the color of my desktop computer). I think ultimately I will go with an HP one.

I'd like to pay about $200 or less but if I need to pay $200--$300 more to get something of significant higher quality, I'd be willing to do it. I was doing some research and looking at some prices and hoping maybe someone knows a good one.

The problem with recommending anything for anybody, especially a business, is that that recommendation could come back and bite the recommender. You are looking at the bottom end of the market with the money to be honest but there are plenty out there. I would always go for Epson or HP at that price range. I do not have a business though. All my printing is purely personal domestic. Most businesses that I have had dealings with tend to go with the expensive multi printers that do everything automatically and fast.

What am I gonna do, sue the person that makes the recommendation?

As John says, I would go with Brother. They are very good printers. I had bought a mono laser printer from them last year, and it gave me no problems yet. This is the one I bought. https://www.brother-usa.com/support/hll2340dw. I like the one that John recommends for you though. I just couldn't stand feeding my HP Officejet 4500 black ink all the time. And if you are looking to buy toner at a decent price, I would try this place.

I have a Brother MFC-J6535DW. It's a multi-functional printer, but it doesn't do two sided scanning, but it does about everything else. I really like it; however the footprint is absolutely huge. I've had HPs and I've had Brothers. I'm with everyone else; I prefer a Brother. The problem I had with my HP is that if I didn't use authentic HP ink cartridges, it would give me fits, and changing ink cartridges became a real pain in the tail end. It took hours to change a dang cartridge. It was maddening. That, and the display gave out, and was barely readable.

One more vote for Brother. I bought my Brother MFC-7860DW printer about 6 years ago. It has never given me any problems but is only for personal use, not used for a business.
