Suddenly my BT Mail on my laptop has become a mess.

When opening it this morning I had a message that they had tweeked the site to make it easier to use etc., in my opinion it is now a mess. There are adverts right and centre, I can only see the top four emails.

With this in mind I have been looking for suggestions on how to get my emails ads free etc. Could someone please recommend an email program I can use please.

Thunderbird as said. I don't think you will be able to just transfer them, at least not without a huge amount of faffing around. You will have to forward your emails to your new address. BT mail has been broken for a while now although I think they have, finally, got rid of Yahoo which made it even more broken.. As I am not with BT I don't really know but you will probably have to print all your addresses out and then transfer them manually.

After installing Thunderbird try clicking import on the top then
choose import everything or choose individually. May work with what ya have.

I think that "import" button only imports from another app on your computer, such as Outlook or similar. BT Mail is an online email client like Hotmail, which is also now called Outlook, (nothing like Microsoft apps to cause confusion.) Anyway I downloaded Thunderbird myself and went through the import wizard and it came back and said that there was no app to import from. There was no provision to tell it to import from an on-line app that I could see.
